Hi was getting random shut-down during games and high CPU intensive applications, used a temperature monitoring programme and noticed within 10 mins of games and applications my CPU temp was 100c climbing to 105c then thermal shutdown

Fully dissembled the laptop and cleaned the fan out, quite a lot of dust for a 1yr old Laptop, also replaced both thermal pastes on the CPU and GPU with some Antec I had lying around.

Didn't take a screenshot before but my idle temp was in the high 60s and full load well the Laptop shutdown, done an Intel Burn Test and I am pleased its now 100% stable and dropped nearly 30c off idle and temp, but are the full load temps ok?

Just curious as to what other mobile i7s are like, I know there going to be much hotter than desktop counterparts :)

My laptop had an i7-3610QM, it ran reasonably cool when not doing much. When playing games, the whole laptop got noticeably hot and I noticed some of this from the GPU exhaust too. I used to use a laptop cooler, but dropped it cos it was bulky and I didn't mind the temperature (I usually feel cold anyway lol). I never needed to clean it or reapply thermal paste. That laptop is now dead due to the motherboard failing. My 3 year warranty didn't do **** as the place I bought it from were going to replace the mobo, but apparently MSI doesn't make that mobo anymore, thus their hands were tied. Unfortunately we can't fix laptops like PCs, otherwise I'd buy a new mobo myself and replace it. I gave up on it and later found my hard drive with all my important data had also been murdered by the mobo failure too. So now it's being repaired for quite a cost and I have an excuse to go all out building a PC next month. Looking forward to it, though it's cost me quite a bit so far.

Mine runs pretty cool most of the time (Don't think I've seen it over 67C and thats with it needing dusting), Samsung uprated the cooling and used a modified GPU board design on this one for better thermal performance however so not sure how typical it is.

Don't have HW Monitor/Prime, etc. installed on it atm but running core temp the cores are dropping to 23-27C idle and ~32C under low load with a peak of 41C opening up firefox, etc.

I think the ones HP use must be poor, done a Google search and a lot of people have very bad temperatures with the i7 3610QM hopefully the new Thermal paste will bed in better and I should see lower temperatures, getting 30c now so it must be working!

Had a 3630QM in my laptop and yes it ran hot, Toshiba satellite. Pulled it out and stuck an i5 dual core as i never used the power of it and stuck the i7 into an ITX VMware build :D

My 3610QM runs at 68 degrees at full load when rendering video (along with GPU assistance heating things up) for a few hours.

You could try downloading Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. It's supposedly only for desktops but works with most laptops I've tried.

With a bit of luck it should let you undervolt the CPU and the cache. It can make quite a big difference to load temps.

Works a treat on my W230SS, the i7 is undervolted by -70mV and l have locked the processor to 2.5Ghz, this allows the GTX 860M to run without both of them throttling under high load.
