Looking for a decent 1080p card (AMD)

970 is a good 1080p card, 960 is ok and should high most games, but the 970 will max everything

This and the reference card have coil whine guarantees :)
They are very pricey though yes, why have you ruled out AMD?

Too hot for a media centre, plus the only real rival to my current gtx670 is a 290x?

For 1080P, I would recommend this >>>>>>>>>>>>>> https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-043-IN

It's cheap (£150 @ OCUK) comes with The Witcher 3. Has 3 x Displayports / HDMI / DVI. Will run really cool and quiet.

2 GB vram could be an issue I think.

It's looking like a 970 TBH.

Also in the market for a new gpu at 1080. Decided to wait until AMD release the 300 series, if ever, to get a cheapish 290X from MM.

I'd say new 285, or used 290/X
Or wait a few weeks, and prices drop when new series arrrives

The 970 is the only worthwhile upgrade, as kaku said the 670 is pretty much equal to a 960 (perhaps slightly slower) and the 285 is in that same category

Wait for the 300 series and if you check in every day you'll either decided on a 300 series or find an Overclockers sale on a 200 series. There was a 285 for around 100 quid the other day but they went like Bovril at a winter football match and were all gone by tea-time so make sure to check in every morning and your bound to see some bargains deals after the 300 get's here.

With the new AMD cards just a month away you'd be foolish to get a 970 right now. All the current cards will have their prices adjusted when the 300 series land and you might find you paid too much for a 3.5gb card.

Yeah your best bet is to wait for AMDs new lineup if your not in a hurry. That will change the prices.

Surely it's time to revisit this thread.

So, my main rig was 980 SLI but I've had them split and been using one in my second rig while I waited for AMD. Obviously the 980 is destroying everything I throw at it at 1080p@60Hz. However, I could be tempted to go SLI in the main rig again if one of AMD's new lineup fits the bill in my second.

What new AMD card is aimed at 1080p? Something on a par with a 970 but cheaper (hopefully).
