Intel 5960X High Temps?

Hello

I have just booted up my PC using watercooling for the first time and have begun to overclock my 5960X.

I've managed a 4.4Ghz overclock at 1.3 volts and during 100% load, the hottest core raised to 72 Degrees Celsius.

Is this normal? For watercooling it seems a little high?

Thanks for your input.

Matthew

That does seem high.

I had a similar issue using AIO watercooling. Ended up re-seating the CPU block.

Did you screw each corner in gradually? That helps.

Yes I believe it was done correctly. I see no reason to believe otherwise.

The idle temps are fine - high 20's to low 30's.

Other people have said the full load temp is fine but I'm struggling to find an official answer.

I get very similar temps on mine at same oc and volts - I am using custom water with 480 rad - so I would not worry overly - it is about right.

5960Xs are fireballs. I cannot go over 4.1 GHz on AIO with 360 radiator. If you run AVX2 you will get 15-20c above anything else. :O Once you crank up the voltage watercooling will not really help at some point as the size of the die is just too small to dissipate all the heat into quick enough into the water cooling loop.

Reminds of the QX6700 hehe.

Really? I have built probably 20 x 5960X all running at 4.2Ghz 1.3v on a Corsair H80 with quiet fans. Temps tend to peak at about 85 Degrees while burning in with 20 passes IBT or Overnight with Aida. I have also built systems with 64Gb Of DDR3 2666Mhz which tends to push the voltage on the IMC but with little effect. As a matter of fact I have one on now that is running at this exact config with 64Gb.

This has been on for over 4 hours running IBT with 64Gb.

I would say replace the thermal compound with a nice thin layer as the stuff that it comes with is pretty thick.

EDIT: BTW Those temps are PEAK. It generally sits at about 74/75 Degrees. Oh and this is in the burn in room with a pretty high ambient temp as I don't use the AC to get a more indicative temp for systems that are going to our resellers in Saudi.
