My second PC is a lounge PC stroke media server stroke Steam Machine type thing. I've had a GTX 670 in there for a while, but the old boy's struggling a wee bit now. I had initially fancied going AMD but have ruled it out.
I was pretty much decided on sticking a 970 in there, but I loaded up GTA V today and by God I swear I could almost hear the 670 cry. So I thought I'd best ask, is a 970 going to maintain 60 fps @ 1080p with this game with everything maxed?
I know folk will say you don't need everything maxed, and at resolutions of 1440 and above that's a fair comment, but I feel 1080p needs all the eye candy it can get.
Can someone with a single 970 at 1080p post frame rates and also let me know the maximum vram this game eats?
I could save myself from spending anything right now and just split my 980s across the 2 rigs and upgrade the gaming machine when a worthy card comes out... But surely a 980 is overkill for 1080p? On the other hand, if games are starting to edge toward the dreaded 3.5GB threshold at 1080p then I can't see a 970 lasting me a couple of years like the 670 has.
