BMI isn't particularly accurate but we could certainly do with telling some fatter people that they need to get on their bike.

Mr Hurry, 47, from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, said he didn't know whether laugh or feel furious after receiving the letter which he described as 'political correctness gone mad.'
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD I TELL YOU!!!

Max Hurry though, that is an awesome name. I'd be quite disappointed if he doesn't grow up to be a famous runner or something tbh.

edit: "Mr Hurry said that Max has an older sister, six-year-old Matilda, who is disabled and as a result will only eat salmon, chicken, vegetables and a bit of potato so the whole family would eat the same."
Now that is a weird set of foods to be exclusively tolerant of.
edit2: oh unless it's behaviour related rather than anything physiological.

anyone else not seeing too much of an issue with this - the kid is a bit podgy.... OK he isn't likely the fattest kid in class but is either not very active or the parents are feeding him rubbish

so the nurse has measured/weighed him and pointed out his BMI* makes him obese - I'm not sure there is much excuse for this kid's wait other than parents giving him a bad diet ergo the suggestion of some education is probably a sound one two

(*yes I know, 99% of OCUK are elite athletes/bodybuilders for whom BMI doesn't work)

How long did the results take?

Well according to those given figures for his age he is in 25th to 50th percentile for his weight, and 2nd to 9th percentile for his height therefore they should be looking at what goes on because he is very short for his age but of a just under average weight. I would look at this there could be a valid reason for this it warrants investigation.

Exactly.
Although I might be looking at it incorrect, but OP stated they measures his BMI and that said he was obese, it actually didn't oddly enough his BMI is 'normal' range.
The kid is short, and not particularly heavy.
That might be of health concern, but fat camp isn't the place for him.
Nothing wrong with telling the parents to have him do some organised activities.

I think it is a generically generated letter for outliers, and most outliers are fat so they got that letter, his specific concern might be why is he short? Mum and dad might be short, or he might have a deeper seated hormonal issue, either way looking at.
