I'm currently running a gtx750ti and to be honest its doing pretty well with whatever I throw at it. However after buying GTA V, I think its time to have a little upgrade.

I like the Nvidia cards and I was looking at a sensible upgrade rather than paying out more than I need to when I won't use the whole of its capabilities.

So iv been looking at the gtx 960s and they are at around £130 brand new at the moment and not too far off that second hand. whereas the 970s are a fair amount more. I was just wondering if there are any 960 users on here that have good/bad experiences with this card and if they would recommend my suggested upgrade.

Cheers in advance!

I guess it depends on how much you expect from the upgrade. The benefits range from anywhere from 10 to 20 fps increase. Will it allow you to max GTA V @ 1080p? Not even close. Atm there's a 290x sale going on, it's 230. You won't find a better deal than that for a while, except maybe another 285 sale and getting 2 of those, but that's a different matter entirely.

You might find you will spend less in the long run if you get a "proper" mid range card instead of baby stepping to a 960. To be fair it will still struggle to keep up with the recent vram hungry console ports now and in the future. It's very hard to honestly recommend a 128bit 2GB card right now in 2015 even for 1080p with a straight face.

I think I was looking at a babystep for this one as I get quite a hefty wage increase in September where I could look at upgrading my whole rig. Whereas at the moment it wouldn't cost that much more and I don't lose all the value of my current card...

Obviously In theory it makes sense to jump up to the next one but that's another £100 on what I was looking at spending that's all. I guess id only be looking at around 4 months lifespan for this one.

I'll have a look at the 290x's for future reference though thank you for recommending them!

£0 for 100% of your current performance, £100 for 130% of current performance or £230 for 200%. I've made the numbers up bit I reckon they're ballpark. With GFX cards it's better to spend more and keep them longer.

Im 100% not going for a 960 now, it does seem best to just go for a better card and look towards the future a little. so i guess the gtx970 or 290 are what ill look at next :) hopefully the price of both will come down with the next radeon card coming out soon
