Travellers refused entry, win compensation!

I'm amazed that the pub hasn't been burned down or stolen

I don't know if I'd have the cojones to refuse entry to 15 ****** tbh. They're not exactly known for settling their disputes like civilized human beings.

All very well saying right to refuse entry and saying you wouldn't want them coming in, but if they are refused entry due to a stereotyping then that is wrong in my opnion. Otherwise, why is it not as bad as racial segregation?

I think the main thing in this case is the presence of the police officer, catholic priest and lawyer who were with the group.... otherwise it would have been a non-story - travelers and indeed any large group of lads get turned away from pubs all the time.

What is the impact of this - well next time you go on a stag do with a big group of lads and are worried about getting into pubs/clubs - just dress up as ******, accuse the bouncers of racism and threaten to sue them.

they're a group of people categorised by an ethnicity which is basically the result of a lifestyle choice rather than a 'race' per say... it isn't as though they have a badge saying 'traveller' on it or are a different skin colour to anyone else - it is thier behaviour that draws attention to them and it is thier behavious that makes pubs not want to have them on the premesis... the same could easily happen to say a rugby team on tour... a rowdy bunch of lads want to go in the pub and the bouncers/management don't want them in there as it would cause a whole bunch of issues should they kick off

I always thought the business was allowed to choose who they would serve. They ended up letting them in anyway. A lot of places have dress code so is that discriminating poor people who can't afford those type of clothes?

I find it silly that you can even get compensation for hurt feelings. I'd give em 3 quid compensation for the travel time it took to find another pub.
