Travellers refused entry, win compensation!

cool so i can start sueing clubs for being refused entry for being part of a group of lads?

Should I start proceedings to sue after every night out, I get refused entry multiple times at multiple venues, they always assume I am drunk because I have an unsteady walk due to muscular dystrophy.

From the article

Judge Hand QC ruled that pub manager David Leach, who has since died, made "stereotypical assumptions" contrary to the Equality Act 2010.

The judge said: "In my judgment the whole thinking of Mr Leach ... was suffused with the stereotypical assumption that Irish Travellers and English Gypsies cause disorder wherever they go.

"In my judgment this is a racial stereotyping of those with that ethnic origin."

The travelling community which include gypsies have been marginalised for centuries even Mr Hitler tried to wipe them out during WW II. They are recognised as a ethnic group under the law and therefore quite correctly be supported.

I understand bigotry is perfectly acceptable towards the traveling community because we choose not to understand their lifestyle beyond "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding"

I have to say that EVERY single incident I have been involved in or I have heard from friends/family/acquaintances, with ******, Gypos, Travellers or whatever they are known by as of late, have been theft, violence, scamming, criminal damage or trespassing. You can see how people do not want these people or their children in their shops/pubs etc. These incidents are not made up, this is how a lot of them live and are bought up. Generally, where there is smoke, there is fire. They reinforce the negative stereotypes they have been saddled with themselves.

Rofl, or it's because that is how by and far they act. I have never come across one nice group.

They moved into a field a mile away, crime went up massively, caused by them.
They moved in by work and they fired at the security guards, ransacked the place, cut equipment up that wasn't even obvious they've done it, which is extremely unsafe.

Is there anyone with an actual good experience of them, it has nothing to do with not understanding the way they live. Their actions have consequences. There are growing movements that have a similar traveling and small mobile houses, yet don't cause these issues and rightly aren't thought of in the same way.

Shock as gypsies hide behind the law when it suits them but disobey it the rest of the time...

Discrimination is wrong whoever is being discriminated against.

Not entirely true. Can you discriminate against the stupid and lazy when hiring staff? Ofcourse you can.

Can you discriminate against a large group of chavs wanting to come into your pub? Sure, chance is higher they'll cause trouble so you can turn them away.

But Gypos though have to be allowed in because they are an ethnic group?

They wanted 100k and got 3k instead, so obviously, the judge was just playing towards the pubs desire to let it go.

3k for a massive chain is surely pittance.

I would have denied knowledge that they were travellers. instead turned them away for 'looking like trouble'.

This is the crux of the argument. You'd be perfectly entitled to turn people away for this, but what if they look trouble and they happen to be gypos? You can risk letting them in and dealing with the fallout or turn them away and get sued?

Discrimination against ****** is warranted due to the fact they are all thieving violent scumbags.

What I find utterly bizarre is that it's a private business. Sure, if it's a public service then yes it's not on. But it's private. They can let in and serve who they want. There is no right to enter a premesis simply because you want to unless I'm mistaken? Heck, if the landlord refused them entry and they then forced their way in, that's not discrimination, that's tresspassing.

It was summed up well above; PC gone mad.

Do I get compensation when travellers deny me access to a public playing field then?

So how come so many women get in nightclubs for free? but men are expected to pay.

same with dating websites someone mentioned match.com or wherever offering them a free sub because they got a lot of activity on the website

where's feminism when we need it oh wait it's a one sided deal

In many places it is illegal to have gender-based price differentiation for nightclubs, e.g. California ruled against the practice.

However, men aren't being refused entry, simply charged differently to allow the club to get a gender ratio that maximizes their profits.

Personally I would never go to a club that charged more for men, and anyway I have barely seen that happen. More common is that there are entry requirements such that group entry requires approximately similar men and women. That ensure the club gets the ratio they want and no Kenna's been discriminated against. A group of men can enter, but they would have to find a group of women to team up with first.

Court awarded eight individuals £3,000 each for "injury to feelings". Injury to feelings? Aww diddums. The World has gone PC mad..

At least we can be glad that money awarded will go back into the system via tax and payment for goods and services.

That says more about you than them.

To be fair, his views are not unusual.

There are a couple of traveller camps in this area. Neither of them have many pubs near by any more. Trade dipped off when the travellers moved in. They were some of the nicest and busiest pubs in the city.

Ironically, the travellers had to "travel" to the nearest wetherspoons to get a drink... but it burned down. I'm not sure who the next victim is.

There's not many landlords who will put up with travellers for long, and there's a long list of very valid reasons why. Most involving illegal or anti-social behaviour.
