Hi,

What way foward would you guys recommend regarding a GPU?

I have the opportunity to get a Titan X or 980 Matrix Platinum's in SLI.

I realise the 980's will be more powerful but lack the massive amounts of VRAM the Tian X does so they both have pros and cons.

I'm playing at 1440p.

Most will say get Titan X at 1440p, but I'm on 980 at ROG Swift G-Sync 1440p and all my games getting nearly 60fps on 90% of games.

You are sort of answering your own question. 1440P is reaching the limits of 4GB but with SLI 980's, you can turn everything up but a single TX might struggle in some games but have the VRAM to cope.

I prefer a single card, so would go for the Titan X or even wait it out for the 980Ti and see what is what.

I wouldn't get a Titan X it's overpriced. Extremely so infact. 980 is fine at 1440p, but if your worried about vram limits then wait for the 980Ti which should in theory be much cheaper?

No idea what nVidia plans to do with pricing but if they repeat the 780 style, they will launch the 980Ti at the 980 price now and drop the price of the 980/70. No idea when the Ti will be released though and nVidia won't be in a rush to release while the 980/70/TX are still selling so well.

I own a TX and love it but price wise makes it hard to recommend with new releases coming soon but a deep wallet and yer, go for it but if not, nope.

If the Fiji series is competitive against the 980 I wouldn't expect NVIDIA to sit on their hands. Remember when the 290X came out and was a better prospect than a 780 they released the 780 Ti in the same week. If the non XT version Fiji has 3500 SPs it could leapfrog the 980 while being at a competitive price. NVIDIA wouldn't like things to stay like that for too long.

Don't forget they have made a fortune off of the small maxwell chip already. NVIDIAs priority seems to be selling the fastest single GPUs. The 980 would fly off the shelves at around £350 and they would most likely still be making a profit.

The op might come to regret getting premium priced 980s at this time imo if the 6GB GM200 card comes anytime soon.

Seems about right, if they make it too cheap they won't shift Titan X's.

I'm not so sure about that, the people who get Titan X's do so because nothing but the best will do, price really isn't the issue.

Those kind of consumers won't settle for a 980Ti simply because it's not a Titan X.

Never underestimate the power of ePeen to separate the gullible from their money:D

Well now I'm truly stuck!

I RMA'd my Matrix and have received a brand new replacement and in the mean time my partner has gone out and bought me a second for a (very) special occasion.

I now have two brand new Matrix cards sitting in my living room and I can't decide whether to use them or attempt to sell them to fund a Titan X...
