How did you get the impression of the cards being rubbish from an article which states they might be titan competitors?

No, you misunderstand (my fault). The idea of a Titan-priced card from AMD is rubbish, regardless of its performance.

Can't blame AMD for wanting to cash in, but it doesn't bode well for the future of gfx cards.

I think we need to prepare for the worst, and rising prices / shafting / milking from PC gaming. It might end up to rich for my blood.

Problem is I am a massive hardware geek, although in the past the new hardware was worth it..

I am a sucker for new hardware, despite my best intentions of not buying the latest thing.. This video sums me up when it comes to waiting for new hardware releases..

.

i've just taken the panel off my PC case and seen the TX for the 1st time in 2 weeks...........yea it's time for a new card, i dont think the TX on its own is powerful enough for 4K......because i'm deffo after 60fps when i get my new tv, all maxed out.

so i'll be looking closely at the 390X Dual card, because in theory it should be about 180% more powerful, that is if the drivers are ok and it's not screwed up with minimum FPS.

Just because it resembles the 295 doesn't mean it is the 295. :)

Just read through the hbm presentation, been in the works 7 years apparently.

If that was a single GPU card in the pic the tubing would be in a different place.:D

Definately a 295X2 in the pic.:)

I also think that if we had a genuine slide the layout and image quality would be a lot better.

Fair enough, I can understand that view. If this rumour is true it appears the price mark ups on the titan level are just too good to ignore.

As you say, possibly unfortunately for gfx cards as a whole but maybe a good sign for the continuation of AMD if the "budget choice" has a competitive premium brand presuming it sells? dunno. mixed feelings myself.

Lisa Su did say the other day that they're trying to move away from being seen as a budget alternative. I could never, ever justify spending Titan X money on a graphics card though. I'd rather make do with my 570 and keep the change. :D

Means nothing, remember these cards are going to be shorter than what we're used to, plus with the memory arranged totally differently it points to a different layout on the pcb, its very possible thats a pic of the new cards shroud.

Yeah this has got me thinking, if the future is gonna be £850+ GPU's that can match a console experience (but PC with higher FPS/Res) for around £250. I think I may just use consoles for a couple years until the PC really pulls ahead again, where you have the mid range cards decimating the consoles for not much money.

Anybody want a Titan X? :p

:D yes as long as we don't get a two point "family". Titan x and 760 only available for purchase!

I'm cynical when it comes to this and I predict ~£600 price tag on 390x. It seems that things could be worse. IMO, any card that costs more than £500 doesn't exist as a consumer product, its just too expensive and terrible value for money. I've hammered on about this before, but its not just about improving performance. It's about getting better performance for the same price as before. 300% cost for just 180% performance? That's going to make AMD stocks drop even more.

I'm more interested to see what happens at the £200-£300 mark, that's where bang for buck is. Especially with 290x prices right now, but I bet they are just low because AMD want to get rid of them, so they don't make the new cards look bad. Give me something as better than a 970 (for the price) and I'll actually buy it.

If their next top end single GPU card can match or exceed the 980 Ti and Titan X then they have themselves a customer here, If not then I'll get a Titan X.

Haha, I never keep a card for long. Because I've dropped down to 1080P (Had probs with 1440P monitor) and gaming on PS4 as well, i.e Witcher 3 looking almost as good as PC. I am thinking do I really want this card.. Or sell it while it's worth something..

I can see what you mean. I suppose you need to think about upcoming pc titles / the possibility of going back to 1440p? If you don't need the power, then like you say, you'll get most of your money back after selling the TX. I'm still rockin' a 7970, and although it's getting to the point of needing a new card, I have to say that overall it still performs admirably @ 1200p. :)

If you're selling it boom give me a shout, I'm in the market in the next week or so :)

Pc per write up on the hbm slides, they seem convinced that 4 gig is virtually set in stone. Yet people at amd are saying that they are optimising frame buffer utilisation as in the past little effort was spent on that and instead they just threw more ram at the card. So 4 gig could be fine it seems.

An obvious concern is the limit of 4GB of memory for the upcoming Fiji GPU – even though AMD didn’t verify that claim for the upcoming release, implementation of HBM today guarantees that will be the case. Is this enough for a high end GPU? After all, both AMD and NVIDIA have been crusading for larger and larger memory capacities including AMD’s 8GB R9 290X offerings released last year. Will gaming suffer on the high end with only 4GB? Macri doesn’t believe so; mainly because of a renewed interest in optimizing frame buffer utilization. Macri admitted that in the past very little effort was put into measuring and improving the utilization of the graphics memory system, calling it “exceedingly poor.” The solution was to just add more memory – it was easy to do and relatively cheap. With HBM that isn’t the case as there is a ceiling of what can be offered this generation. Macri told us that with just a couple of engineers it was easy to find ways to improve utilization and he believes that modern resolutions and gaming engines will not suffer at all from a 4GB graphics memory limit. It will require some finesse from the marketing folks at AMD though…
