***The Official OcUK Lego Thread***

Is it possible to build hard to find sets from instructions and buying the bits separately?

I'm sure I saw on the auction site a Millennium Falcon for sale and the seller said it wasn't built from a set but from buying the bits separately.

Also, as I recently bought the Technic crane and there is a mod to make it into a GroveGMK6400 - I'm not sure I understand how to compare the 42009 kit with this mod and work out what extra bits I would need to build the Grove version - I've found the thread with the instructions on eurobricks forum.

Is it replacing the Mini Cooper? If so, how soon before the launch of the Mini did we see it? My GF's offering to buy me Lego for my birthday but I want to know if I should get her to hold on until the F40 is out.

It is indeed and bricklink is your friend for this. I plan on doing 10030 Star Destroyer in just this way soon :)

I'm going to be doing it for the 10221 Super Star Destroyer. :)

I'm sorry to need so much hand holding but how does bricklink work? Do you get the instructions for what you want to build, search for each bit and buy it once its found it? Seems a bit time consuming. Is there a way of saying - I want to build X, find me the bits to do so?

Don't think its going to be replacing the mini cooper, it'll be a new set

Yeah I expect the Mini to stick around, it followed the VW Camper and that is still available isn't it? Probably sells well due to the appeal of the brand and original vehicle.

Surprised we've not seen much of the F40 yet, some info and images must be due soon. Lego have been a bit slack with leaks just recently.

Some parts of the Falcon are just silly expensive, like the dish and the mast rigging on the engines. Go to the Eurobricks forum and look for some cool mods to get around this and look better than the original pieces, unless of course you want a 100% authentic model :)

Not fussed on having it 100% authentic. Even rather innocuous parts like a sort of right angled technic bit is £7 in yellow but 60p in black.

I'm thinking of printing off a parts list and checking the price for each bit. Anything expensive I'll look for an alternative.

A couple of a BL shops mention colour discrepancies - is this slight changes or would it be horribly obvious? I'm not after a faithful repro as such but theres a couple fairly ropey looking versions on the net.

It depends on the condition of the part, thankfully most stores on BL mention if the part is as new or marked/faded etc. To be honest i wouldnt worry about slight colour variations unless you want it to look brand new, i think the bricklinked falcons actually look better as some parts look weathered and slightly faded so it gives that 'dirty' look the piece of junk is famous for :D

Everytime I see this thread has new posts I hope for F40 pictures and every time its people posting more bloody starwars or minifigs :(

New Imperial Shuttle is already available from several places including directly from Amazon. Lego have it for sale on 1st June I think, I'll probably get it there to get VIP points.

Does anyone know the name of the Theme that contains the Detectives Office, Parisian Restaurant etc? My GF really likes those sets and i'd like to start getting some for her. Im just curious because they're not part of the Creator Townhouse range, they seem more adult than that.
