Network Rail industrial action

I work for a company that helps manage the systems that run the railway, and yeah it looks as if mondays going to be a fun day!

Virgin have already cancelled all west coast trains on the Monday and Tuesday, regardless of whether the strike takes place. Royally ******* up my travel plans for next week, lovely.

I really don't understand the point of strike action. Any support they may have had from me has now gone out of the window because I can't get to work. As such I truly hope they don't get a single penny, ever.

its stupid because there giving up a £500+ bonus each to go on strike, as their higher ups have said that they will take the bonuses away if the strike happens, and with no agreement being made with them it seems like the strike is more likely to happen and everybodys travel plans will be phucked up!

thus technically saving the company a cool 2.2m that they will more than likely have to pay the train companys who have cancelled their trains the compensation towards anyway..

It's only 20% of the bonus for every day on strike.
Train drivers have nothing to do with this, so having driverless trains would have zero effect on the outcome.
I don't think anyone really cares what the public think, it's more about the cost to the company. It's going to cost them loads, especially with big engineering works over the bank Holliday which are likely to fail towards the end as strikes come into force.

I'm photographing my sisters wedding next week in Italy, and was pretty horrified to discover that literally every single train to Gatwick is cancelled on Monday/Tuesday, but it seems the bus services are operating so I managed to get sorted..

from what ive heard from our bosses its their whole bonus that is being taken away if they do go on strike not just 20% and its nothing to do with the drivers and the rail its because they'd have to run an unsafe railway because the systems we set up will have no data being fed into it by the people going on strike, so with the data not present effectively nobody knows where anybody else is on the railway hence it being unfit for purpose and un safe which is why its such a big problem, and the fact they put the plans in on the friday to cover the weekend and the monday it means friday is the last time the plans can be altered..

so if they don't agree by friday and then do cancel the strike it won't matter as nobody can do anything about the plans already happening on the railway which is why its such a big problem.

Is it just me, or do these strikes seem to happen when a bank holiday is? If they wanted the day off, should just book it

Some of London Underground is also going to be affected as some of the services rely on Network Rail signals and power supply:

the following services will be affected on Monday, Tuesday and into Wednesday morning:

Bakerloo line: trains will not run north of Queen’s Park

District line: there will be no service between Wimbledon and Putney Bridge after 17:00 on Monday and all day Tuesday. There will be no service between Turnham Green and Richmond all day on Monday and Tuesday

Is it fair that the top bosses give themselves big payrises and bonuses while effectively giving their staff bugger all?
No, but that could be said for any company, ever. Like I say, in this day and age who expects to sit in a midrange job for 25yrs and get nice fat payrises for doing so? That's not the way the world works anymore. There's a thing called a career ladder which if you want to get paid more you will have to climb.

More likely because a lot of people will be travelling on the bank holiday monday and they (Network Rail staff) want the impact to be felt. Not sure what it's going to achieve as they will now be hated by the public.
