X-Rite i1 Display Pro & Calibration software

Hello guys,

I have just bought a X-Rite i1 Display Pro calibrating device and I am trying to get the BlueEye Pro software version 4.5.6 working with it.

I have plugged in the device and up on running the Blue Eye Pro software, I get a No measuring device found error.

Blue Eye is definitely selected with the device drop down menu in the Blue Eye Pro software

I have installed the software that came on the CD with the calibration device but I am still getting the same error

Could Baddass or somebody else please respond with info on how to get this device to work with the Blue Eye Pro software?

I have searched via google and it seems many people have difficulty in getting this device running properly with calibration software and even the software it comes supplied with.

I have a feeling it might be a driver issue that is causing it.

I am using Windows 7 x64.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Should there not be X-Rite i1 Display drivers installed to make calibration software detect the device?

I have looked through the Windows Device Manager but cannot see any X-Rite i1 Display drivers installed.

I do know on the normal non pro i1 Display calibrating device, it required a X-Rite i1 Display drivers to be installed before the Blue Eye Pro software recognises it.

I have tried connecting to a USB 2.0 port and also USB 3.0 and get the same issue.

I got the X-Rite i1 Display Pro device to recognize in the i1Profiler software that comes with it but the Blue Eye Pro software doesn't recognize it at all when it should.

I don't believe the i1 display pro works with the LaCie software. At least I've never got it working. You'd need to use it with something else. Try BasICColor perhaps that's a good package.

If I had known this before hand then I wouldn't have bought the i1 display pro. I actually prefer to use the Blue Eye Pro software.

I take it BasICColor is just as good as Blue Eye Pro at doing very good screen calibrations and gives just as good quality results?

The only issue I see with BasICColor is you need to purchase a license for it after the 14 days trial.

I also have a normal Eye One Display 2 calibration device as well which does work with Blue Eye Pro software but I am sure you said this calibrator
does not work properly to calibrate a screen such as the Acer XB270HU and so this is the reason why I bought the X-Rite i1 Display Pro.

The old i1 Display 2 works fine with the LaCie software, yes. but that device isn't designed to work with LED backlights so might create errors. The i1 Display Pro is definitely a better device. The provided i1 Profiler software actually does a very good job of calibrating the screen, you could just5 stick with that. it just lacks the final reporting function of the LaCie software

BasICColor does need a license after 14 day trial period, but reason i suggested it was because it has loads of options and a good reporting function too so makes a good alternative

I also have the i1 Display Pro, I used to have this problem, even with drivers installed and using their own i1profiler software, it would refuse to detect the device and load the software.

The latest version of the i1profiler software seems to have cured this problem though, I find it calibrates the display perfectly fine so you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Download link for latest version is here https://www.xrite.com/i1display-pro/support/d1548

Hello Baddass,

Could you please give tips on the recommended settings you would use with the basICColor display 5 software?

I assume it is best to select the custom option and set the advanced settings but I am not sure of the best settings
to use in each of the sections of the advanced settings of this software.

Also when you click start to start the calibration process it asks you to select Monitor type from the drop down menu but
I am not sure what I should select from this menu for a Acer XB270HU screen and also for my older HP ZR24w screen.

When I used the Blue Eye Pro software, I used your recommended settings you use mostly in your screen reviews and it
is easier to set the setting of this software because it is mostly already set properly except the white point and Gamma
settings which your recommendation is to use a setting of 6500k for white point and a setting of 2.2 for the Gamma.

I am not sure how to set those on the basICColor display 5 software and also the Luminance and Blackpoint.

It would be great if you could quickly install the program then quickly have a look at the options
then let me know the main ones that need set to what before starting the calibration process.

or once you have installed it, set the settings for a custom preset the way you would use it then save the preset then
navigate to your C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\basICColor display 5\UserSettings where the presets are
stored and find the custom preset you saved and then you can share the file with me so I can load it into the program
to have the same settings pre applied.

Thanks mate.

ok here you go.

1) Settings section on the left:
- presets > calibration method - software calibration video LUT's
- color temperature - CIE Daylight standard - D65 (that's the same as 6500k)
- Tonal response curve - Design/print > Gamma 2.2

- luminance/contrast ratio - white luminance enter "maximum" i would for now. Contrast ratio maximum and black luminance 'min. neutral'. That will maintain maximum contrast ratio for whatever brightness setting you have selected in the OSD without the software trying to crush your luminance to reach a desired level (e.g. 120 cd/m2) and crushing contrast ratio at the same time. let it calibrate to max luminance and then once the whole thing is done, you can use the "measure" feature in that same section to measure the current luminance, and as you do, just decrease the brightness control in the OSD down to whatever you feel is comfortable, or until your each a desired target like 120cd/m2. adjusting the brightness in this way afterwards wont impact an other aspect of the calibration so you get best of both worlds. i do the same thing calibrating with the LaCie software to maximise contrast ratio

then just carry out the profiling from there and if you want, post your results page here :)

Thanks Baddass for posting these recommended settings.

One last thing. Under Profile, what be recommended I should select for Profile type and Chromatic Adaptation? and should I select ICC v4 Profile?
