I've got my hotel booked, usual Holiday Inn Express and at £54 a night inc breakfast not complaining. Also booked 2 arena tickets.

So whos all going to this? Just wish the stage times would get announced soon. Was about this time in 2013 (when I was last there) they they came out. Need to sort out my clashes (think theres two so far )

I'll be there from the wednesday - 4th year in a row :D

waiting for the map and times to be released so then the excitement really kicks in :D

Blimey forgot I even started this...will update the top post tonight with all the usual details.

My tickets turned up at the weekend and registered for my dog tag for the new cashless system.

Heading up the Thursday night so should be there for it opening on Friday lunchtime.

Yeah I went to make a thread but thought I'd just check and just bumped this one back up instead.

We are going to be there from the Wednesday. Rip camping this time. Looking forward to the ale house aswell. At least that will be well stocked on the Wednesday night. Who's everyone looking forward to seeing?

I'm not going, but if you can watch Blues Pills and the Von Hertzen Brothers.

We've toured with both of them recently and they're both incredible live bands.

After 7 years of standard camping I'm going campervan this year. Had to get my tickets at Christmas though as they sell out so fast! Will be there a week Wednesday \m/>.<

I'm not going, but if you can watch Blues Pills and the Von Hertzen Brothers.

We've toured with both of them recently and they're both incredible live bands.

Unfortunatly Blues Pills clash with The Wild Lies and Von Hertzen clash with Cavalera Conspiracy. On the whole this year though ive managed to avoid too many clashes which is pretty good going really. Normally its a nightmare.

I agree this year there are a lot less clashes for bands I want to see than previous years, even when you get towards the top of the bill.

Mere days :D stocked up on drink earlier. Got a bit of food. Put cash into my account and just need to double check I have all my camping gear. Should be good, weather looking like it's alright too!

I'm thinking about a Friday ticket. Strangely the last time I went the headliners and 2nd act were almost identical to this years (2009 - Slipknot, Faith No More, Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue, Black Stone Cherry etc!)

***EDIT*** - Well, bought a ticket now :D

The Android version of the app has been updated and now includes the RFID tag management section and stage schedule.

Had a great Friday, I missed a few at the start (At The Gates :() as my flight home was delayed so only got in at 3.30 to catch a bit of Lacuna Coil.

Clutch were awesome and more my style of music and it made me LOL to hear a youngster behind me call it the "Music for the 3 B's- Bald, Beer gut and Beards" :D

COC were shocking, worse than their 1st gig on the Reunion tour I went to earlier this year. Worse for me is that they actually looked skint as a band as they brought no roadies, no backdrop and you could have fit all their gear in a pub. Pepper mentioned it a few times during the gig but it doesn't sound good :(

I caught a bit of 5 Finger Death Punch (good as usual) and Modestep who absolutely destroyed the 2nd stage with a monumental set.

Then the rain came during Judas Priest and knackered my camera which I'd kept inside a latex glove I got from a food stall, so I headed into the pepsi tent to watch Dragon Force who teamed up with Baby Metal, probably one of the more surreal moments I had.

By the time Slipknot came on the rain had died right down, the ground was a churned up mess and the pits were awesome. Having seen Slipknot at a few festivals they really are masters of the festival gig and this was true again this time, absolutely outstanding.

I left battered, bruised and aching in exactly 48 different places to join the mayhem which was the car park and finally got back to Stoke around 1am.

I'm not sure at my age/weight/patience with morons level, whether I'll ever do a full 3 day again but the 1 day was just about enough for me :D

PS Had no issues with the RFID payment method and I didn't see anyone that did.

Got back earlier today and thought I'd write up my thoughts on the weekend/bands. British weather was typically random, with it being hot and wet on friday, warm and very wet on Saturday and cold and wet on sunday. The whole place turned into a quagmire after friday evening and regardless of how much straw they put down the mud got very very heavy and thick all of the place.

I got there in time for the gates opening on friday and saw

All That Remains - Not bad as an opener
Hellyeah - Seen them a couple of times and they are good but nothing exceptional
At The Gates - Wasn't overly impressed by them, was ok
Lacuna Coil - Dull, just nothing new happened with them for year, Enjoy the Silence was the highlight of the set
Clutch - Immense, had never really listened to them and they were brilliant. Will be looking to see them later in the year when they tour.
Five Finger Death Punch - If they don't get a headline slot next time they play then something has gone seriously wrong, brilliant band and massive response from the crowd
Thunder - Its Thunder, they were the very 1st live band I saw 20 odd years ago and they are still very very good
Black Stone Cherry - Another great band to watch live, saw them on their own headline tour and they didn't disappoint then or now.
Slipknot - Better than the last couple of times I've seen them, the new material has really revitalised them as a band and always get the crowd going.

Saturday another early start

Heart Of A Coward - Got the day off to a really good start and had a pretty decent sized crowd
Funeral For A Friend - Seen this lot a few times and it took them a few songs to get their act together/warmed up but ended well
Mallory Knox - Hadn't seen them before and didn't know anything about them and was pleasently surprised as they played a good set.
Hollywood Undead - Shockingly bad, truly awful
Upon a Burning Body - Very impressed by this lot and the packed out the tent, played a blinding set
Parkway Drive - had forgotten how good these guys were and they did a great job
Rise Against - Didn't know a lot by these guys but again another pretty decent set
A Day To Remember - Had heard some of these guys stuff and was very impressed with them, should be heading further up the bill in the next year or two
Faith No More - Its FNM!!!!! they were utterly brilliant...new stuff old stuff, EPIC, Midlife Crisis, Superhero the lot could have watched them for another hour.
Muse - I've seen Muse a fair few times, and like the very 1st time back when they opened the show they came on and utterly blew the place away. This was one of the best live sets I've ever seen, by anybody, ever, pure brilliance. Whoever said they shouldn't have been a headliner at Download, you were wrong so very very very wrong.

Made it in reasonably early on Sunday but missed the 1st act so saw

36 Crazyfists - I like these guys since I saw them years ago at Download and were a good listen, nothing special but good
The Cavalera Conspiracy - Good, but highlight was Roots and Refuse Resist which the crowd went mental for
Tremonti - This lot are heading up the bill, the musicianship, singing and songwriting are superb, one of the best sets of the weekend.
Billy Idol - Fun set, with the obvious White Wedding and Rebel Yell highlights, not a lot different from when I saw him in the Red Tent back in 2005.
Slash - Needs to headline, this lot are superb, the mix of new stuff with GnR and Velvet Revolver works so well with Myles on vocals.
In Flames - Pretty good, not a brilliant set but got the crowd going
Lamb of God - Fantastic, firing on all cylinders even with a stand in guitarist. New stuff old stuff it all got hammered through.

We left after that as Kiss were not of any interest at all and judging by the size of the crowd and the mass exodus we weren't alone in that thought.

Overall Saturday was a phenomenal day of music, even with crap weather, and there were classic sets played throughout the weekend. I'll be going again next year.

Im glad Muse did well. I can't stand them and had somewhere else to be as ill say when I go through my list but I did hope they came out and just owned the place.

Friday

All that remains - like these guys but didn't see the whole set. Saw this calling which is the track i wanted to hear

Hellyeah - if they had a different singer I'd like them more. Never liked mudvayne so it's understandable i guess

Lacuna Coil - not my thing but were decent

Five Finger Death Punch - brilliant. Big fan of these guys and really looking forward to the new album

Judas Priest - again they just know exactly what to do and put much younger bands to shame

Black Stone Cherry - seen them before and just bought tickets to their next tour. Always brilliant and this was no exception

Saturday

Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! - decent enough. Someone I was with wanted to see them. Just nothing exceptional

Apocalytica - new singer is a smart addition and nailed the songs they played

Ruse Against - wasn't looking forward to these guys as I'm not a fan of the newer stuff. But ended up loving them again.

A Day To Remember - a band I was really looking forward to seeing and they didn't disappoint at all. Definitly a band I want to check out again

Andrew WK - its Andrew WK. You know exactly what to expect and it's exactly what you get. Fantastic in the small tent

Hey! Hello! - I can never and will never say no to some Ginger Wildheart. Great set as usual only let down slightly by the new female singer. Had to be said the old one was better

Sunday

The Dead Daisies - hasn't heard much at the time but since then the new album has barely left my playlist.

H.e.a.t - can't recommend these guys enough always a highlight. Erik Gronwall is without a doubt one of the best front men around. Really hope this leads to bigger things for them although I'll be said to have to stop seeing them in smaller venues if it does

Backyard Babies - one of my all time favourite bands but unfortunately plauged with sound problems from the start. Ill catch them again on the next tour.

Billy Idol - fantastic. All the hits and sounding amazing.

Slash - a let down if I'm honest. Well sort of. I still don't really like myles all that much which is my main beef and I felt that since they now have two albums they don't need to do 4 guns and a velvet song.

Motley Crue - these guys were the headliners as far as im concerned. Bought tickets to download before they were announced as it was sure they would play and I needed to see the before they called it quits. Had been led to believe they weren't up to much and yes they were better 10years ago when I last saw them but really they were still excellent and Nikkis flamethrower bass was almost worth it alone
