Cyclists joining the road without looking

depends on the road but cyclists have the same right of way as any other traffic.

to many motorists disobey the right of way signs on roads when your on a bicycle because they can just muscle their way through and as a cyclist you are irrelevant on the roads.

and from the attitude in this thread.

I once saw a drunk driver mow down some woman, so all motorists are drunk driving murders...

let's face it a very small percentage of cyclists are reckless idiots and the majority of these will be southern commuters, the majority of us care about our health and safety and won't take unnecessary risks and a potential visit to a hospital/morgue for the sake of 5-10 seconds.

Saw this one the other day - admittedly it was a kid so it's somewhat different but he was still an idiot:

stuff like this makes me realise why my driving instructor was telling me to look in my mirrors so much, any manoeuvre it was mirrors signal.. mirrors turn... mirrors stop...

cyclists need to watch what they are doing, i bet most of them don't have insurance.

We have insurance. Cyclists don't so its automatically our fault. Granted they don't help themselves but everyone needs to be responsible on the road. My friends who do cycle on the road have told me many stories about how they've been hit then the driver has just driven off without a care in the world.

I wish they would remember this...
just wait the next time someone ignores the give way sign when I'm on my bike.

I'm going to go absolutely mental at the guy and tell him all motorists are the same always breaking the law. :D

If he tries to man up and get out of his car we all know what happens.
survival of the fittest not survival of the lard arse who can't walk 10 metres to the shop like all motorists

There's clearly no reasoning with these small minded people.

That's not true. Cycle insurance exists, I have it. I think the issue is that it isn't a legal requirement. Perhaps it should be?

Even if that someone is a cyclist? :p

Yesterday a cyclist left the pavement at a dropped curb right in front of me without looking over his shoulder, in order to travel through a red light and turn left at a cross-roads, only to re-join the pavement at the next available opportunity.

What kind of damage exactly could a cyclist do to a car that would warrant insurance? Unless a cyclist hits a Ferrari or something, the damage will be confined to triple figures. Effectively, all cyclists are "self insured" unless they take out specific cycle insurance..

I just can't comprehend how easily people put themselves in danger, I'd never join a road without looking, I've known people to cross the road without looking when it's a green man as another example, I always look regardless to make sure it's clear or the cars have stopped.

Another scenario I've witnessed a lot recently is motorcyclists (mostly people on mopeds) who overtake on a junction, especially if the car in front of them starts slowing down to turn left which often means another car taking the opportunity to pull out and potentially smashing into the overtaking motorcyclist.
