Ireland votes on gay marriage - why should I care?

The moral decay of Western civilization has quite a significant impact on all of us. We're now deep into the period of decadence that signals the start of the end.

Got to wonder sometimes.

"In psychoanalytic theory, reaction formation a defensive process (defense mechanism) in which emotions and impulses which are anxiety-producing or perceived to be unacceptable are mastered by exaggeration (hypertrophy) of the directly opposing tendency. The reaction formations belong to Level III or neurotic defense mechanisms, which also include intellectualization, dissociation, displacement and repression."

All hail the minorities!

After me...

All hail the minorities! and again

Come on hands in the air and salute

All hail the minorities! Repeat after me...

I will leave it at that! ;)

Getting pretty sick of this, it's been the top story all day on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 news. Why? A foreign country is having a referendum on possibly changing their law - whoopee doo. The subject of gay marriage is an interesting one but it's just not relevant to me unless we're talking about changing the law in this country. I guess at the moment I'm moderately in favour of gay marriage, so this isn't about sour grapes from a homophobe.

Two other stories that are more relevant to me that could have been the top story - the Bank of England's plan for a Brexit, accidentally sent to the Guardian lol. Or what about questions for Alistair Carmichael, who leaked the Nicola Sturgeon likes David Cameron paper.

Anyways,

Are you making a thread about how you don't care about something tremendously important to other people? Like you're offended that an outcome doesn't figure you in it? That is fantastically selfish and you should be ashamed.

Trolling, or...?

This is an interesting one. He's obviously an intelligent and articulate guy but there are definitely posts which appear to have tongue firmly placed in cheek. I don't think this is one of those, unfortunately.

You should have left it until your point, if there is one, was at least half way clear. Being obtuse is only excusable if it's unintentional and adding rolleyes doesn't tick that box.

Don't worry, I'm sure it won't impact on your life in any possible meaningful or detectable way.

I for one think the news is positively fabulous.

Were you equally excited back in 2000 when the Netherlands became the first country to recognise gay marriage? Now that was a newsworthy event. Ireland following suit 15 years later is all a bit ... meh for me.

For someone who pays a special interest in Middle Eastern affairs it's very hypocritical and bigoted of you to not pay attention to Ireland.

Why? What happens in the Middle-East is many times more important than what happens in Ireland.

I care in that a country should drag itself into the modern age and gives its population a say in it.

To be honest, I care less about Alistair's letter and Ms Krankie whinging over it.

I don't have any problem at all with whats going on.

My point is why the big deal? I have gay friends etc and!

Its not news it should have been done years ago, its no big deal!

Its the media I am getting at not the subject matter. ;)

So you'll be happy with a similar level of coverage later this year when Slovenia ratifies its gay marriage act?

I think the point is that it IS a big deal to people who are not you and part of that is that it should have been done a long time ago but wasn't, hence making it newsworthy on at least two levels.
