sennheiser outlet silly prices

you cannot compare x1's to HD700's.

that would be like comparing a subwoofer to a set of floorstanders.

both have a completely different sound signature.

x1's are fun. hd700's are reference.

Found a video here where he draws comparisons to the X1's:

I think I'll enjoy the HD700's more for gaming and the music I listen to.

Hmm HD700 really tempting at that price - as they wouldn't get used enough over my 600s to justify paying full price :S

EDIT: Can't talk myself into it somehow even though I love the looks of the 700s... just aren't going to get used enough.

What do you think is better for gaming AKG K712's or HD 700? I believe the AKG's soundstage is better.

k712 is better for gaming, for music it would probably be hd700's but tbh i've never heard either better off trying both for yourself.

just bought hd700's and own hd600's, looking forward to testing them back to back.

^^ 700s are technically a lot better headphone but the 600s are better suited to the listening experience for the type of music I mostly listen to.

I haven't used the k712, but as i understand it the HD700s have one of the widest soundstages available only being beaten out by the HD800. Positional audio is also immense on the hd700s. From what i have read the k712s are more analytical whereas the 700s are warmer (although not what anyone would call warm!). I have the HD700s and as a multi purpose headphone they are brilliant, music sounds lovely through them, as do movies and games.

Do the HD700 leak audio? I mean that in the sense if I used them on the tube, will I make the people around me upset? :)

The spec say it's a "open" headphone, so I assume sound would leak out easily?

They are not at all suited to using on the tube - open design + physical design hadn't been done with portability in mind.

Cheers, thanks for that info! That makes it easier to make a decision about that one. Would you recommend any one from that outlet store which might suit that purpose? I currently own a Audio Technica ATH-M50XBL, do you think there are any ones there that would be better than them?

The momentums are excellent for portable use - though personally I think the on-ears are better than the over-ears for that but that is somewhat subject to taste. They aren't perfect for sound isolation (but do a reasonable job of blocking external noise) but low leakage and stay on the head well (comfort might be a bit subjective) and the sound quality is excellent (aslong as you don't try using the 4 pole jack version of the cable with devices that are only compatible with 3 pole *cough*).

EDIT: I'm not familiar with the Audio Technica ATH-M50XBL so can't really give a comparison.

EDIT2: They also have a couple of options of the Amperior on there which are designed for portable use though I'm not a big fan personally - though designed off a similar base as the momentums.

Thanks, you have been super helpful, I will read up on the momentums! :D

The K712 is warmer than the HD700. Soundstages are similar. The HD700 at £214..still wouldn't buy! I think the K712, HD650 and even the HD600 sound better. The HD700 is more suited for gaming but it's soundstage isn't amazing. The 650 is a bargain at that price!
