'Adult Stores' you occasionally pass when on motorways etc.

so odd to come across this post (pun intended)... I was driving back from Hull this weekend (back to Birmingham) and I past one of these and thought the exact same thing myself.

I forget the exact location mind, I was mindlessly following the satnav

Who or why would anybody make the trip to go there!?

They sell sex toys / aids, costumes, pornography, literature, contraception, novelty underwear, lubrication and pretty much everything else related to sex be it flying solo or as a couple (or more!).

Like Anne Summers on steroids :)

Far be it from me to judge the sexual proclivity of others, but I imagine people go in there to buy things to help enhance their sex life - in one way or another. Or - as others have said - they go in for a bit of a giggle.

I imagine they also offer a mail order service, but many people like to see what they are buying in the flesh, as it were ;)

I went in one in my teens to get my then girlfriend a pair of crotchless underwear so we could quickly have some fun while her parents were downstairs ;) Turns out a pair of tights with the crotch torn out worked just as well. Who knew. lol :D

At least I'm now educated! Though a diagram would be better I feel. I'm more of a visual learner.

But yeah, it was more a "Why on motorways/A Roads and not in towns etc" :p

Planning, most likely.

Would you want a sex shop in your high street?

At least if it is out of the way on a main road, you wont have to worry about little Johnny and Melinda having their innocent minds defiled by giant rubber willies in a window display! lol :D

I'm pretty sure there is on in my town....

It just seems like odd placement for a business! but like you say, planning!

Pulses & Cocktails aren't really 'dodgy' shops, there's been one off Parkway into Rotherham for about 10-12 years now and I have visited it with the wife a couple of times.

They're like Ann Summers but a little more 'risque', one opened in Chesterfield a while ago and it had a bar which was fantastic as it served Warsteiner on draught but alas for some reason it couldn't attract enough customers (maybe it was due to the S&M dungeon it had in the downstairs bit) and has since closed down.

This is amazing.

:D

I can sort of understand the appeal... someone who is a proper deviant/wants something specialist doesn't want to be seen exiting one of these places on a high street in many towns/cities... and if you do that in Sheffield, Rotherham etc.. well they're small enough places that people do recognise you especially if you're a local GP, estate agent, Headmaster etc.. so an out of town location or industrial area is a good option for that type of business.

on the other hand it does look dodgy, some shifty bloke going to one of those - if/when someone does observe them entering/exiting the embarrassment factor must be a bit higher... just there is less chance of anyone seeing them or if they do then it being anyone they know

In London on the other hand you've got Soho... and there are a bunch of places all close to each other, no one is going to bat an eyelid at anyone coming in or out of one

There's a strip club on the A5 near Junction 9 of the M1 https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.8...!1e1!3m2!1s-9ulPmsyjs50ErvOhKmCLA!2e0!6m1!1e1

I really need to stop noticing these places!

LOL - do not want...

I'm picturing Lorry drivers and white van men... and the concept of a 'daytime hooker' from the show 'My name is Earl' probably applies to the sort of women who work there. I always assumed that the pound-in-a-pint-glass pubs were the elephants graveyard for ex Rhino/Stringfellow's girls... but there is clearly a lower level and I'd wager that place is it.
