Non-USB powered speakers for laptop?

Hi all,

My Mum has a very basic laptop and would like some simple external speakers for it.

The problem is that none of her USB ports work (I purchased it very cheap knowing the UBS ports did not work as my Mum has no requirements for USB ports)

I need to purchase some speakers that do not need to be powered by USB – can I buy such things these days? The audio jack does work on her laptop and she borrowed her friend’s speakers to check this.

I purchased a USB to audio jack adapter but it doesn’t work.

I don’t want to spend more than £10 on the speakers.

Well you could get new unpowered speakers for a tenner.

Or fish about in the handful of powered second hand speakers for under £10 inc postage on an auction site.

Thank you. I just wasn't sure on the key words on what to search for on an auction search. I have searched for speakers of all kinds but keep getting USB powered ones as my results
