*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

It's not about dumbing down, it's just about not leaving your enjoyment of the game at the mercy of RNG. I don't like playing content under levelled, it's a crap difficulty mechanic. I'm forced to do it though because RNG has decided six nightfalls aren't going to drop a single etheric.

Guaranteed 1 etheric for first nightfall per week. Job done!

Have you tried 34 Prison of Elders ? its pretty straightforward. There's no need for RNG when you can just do the level 34 every week at level 34 and get one piece of etheric light. You only have to do it the twice at 33.

I found the trials to be a quick way to reach 34 to be honest - but maybe I just lucked out with a decent group on LFG. With the 3 boons, we got to 6 wins within 30 minutes on the 1st attempt.

I'm a lot better now with better gear/weapons for it but I'm happy to run plenty groups to get people to 6 wins.
We almost got there with my 2 mates who have terrible PvP weapons and a k/d ratio of <0.5 most of the time.

I'm stuck at 33.5 with other 2 characters like so need to run the PoE or Trials with those once more. 1 etheric light for each will suffice.

How Ive done it on all my characters - level 32 last week for the gloves, this week for the chest and the etheric light from last weeks 34 on my Crota boots - obviously got an Exotic helmet ascended aswell.

This weeks 34 is pretty easy until the final boss, just takes time to kill the mini-bosses really.

Its a surprisingly cheap way to get to level 34 with minimal time/RNG put in

Rinsed my boons in two 3-0 spankings last week. 1.5K/D but naff teams. I had an awful run with LFG, tried CE HM and gave up on the abyss, tried VoG HM, gave up on confluxes.

I'm just annoyed I have to be the one playing the 34 tonight on gimped mode because the nightfall RNG decided to do me over, not because of anything to do with how I play.

Twas ever thus with Destiny I suppose....

I know how you feel man. I've done 6 NFs too, and never seen one drop for anyone. Just keep getting terrible exotic weapons that I just dismantle because they have no use at all.

I seem to get loads of exotic weapons and bounties for them which sounds good but it's just all the same crap - I never get the stuff I want.
get an exotic weapon bounty every few days but never even bother with them now - Thorn and Bad Juju are the only 2 I've kept.

I want the Hunter Chest that is setup for Trials - fast revives, more hand cannon ammo etc. Both mates have it and neither even have a Hunter. lol.

Just have to plod on though. To be honest, I'm just having fun playing it with mates so haven't thought too much on the RNG this time around and just take whatever comes.

I got a good team mate in Trials via LFG but I rarely find people from there fun to chat with as they are just super serious about it all.
The best player on the team was 8-0 and was begging us to play well the final round. We got hammered - but I went 10-5 k/d and he was like 4-10 or something yet he was still complaining then took a hissy fit and left. I was just taking it easy before that but tried harder because he asked - not my fault he tried to rush and made a right mess of it.

Also had someone going mad at everyone for wiping at the start of Templar section once - yet he just stood at the top sniping...so not sure what use he was.
Then he suddenly had things to do when we got the Gorgon chest.

it's been a much better experience sticking with mates and OCUK - the people I've been playing with from here have all been cool so far

It's infuriating when you have a bad run/day on this.

Monday we attempted to get a flawless run on ToO on another character. Burned through two sets of boons and got absolutely battered. We had a different team mate & I can only think the calibre of player was higher for some reason. Every victory was close and hard fought, every loss was crushing.

Encountered lots of players that seemingly took less damage but were dishing out ridiculous Thorn headshots from across the map. The symptoms of P2P multiplayer were apparent, being shot around corners etc..

Moved on to Lv35 Skolas with Solar burn. 2 x 34s & a 33 with no G'horn. We've dragged a few 33s through over the last week but just could not get it together. We got him down once & failed on the mines.

Giving the Lv35 PoE a shot tonight. None of my group are rocking a maxed Horseman & only two of us have a good set of 365 arc weapons... I can see frustration ahead!

agreed. I've got all 3 characters to max rank on the 1st day of reset in the second week. Thats completely unheard of when compared to the old system. Its much friendlier for the normal people who don't play destiny as many hours as some of us do (me included :o)

The prison of elders has no real infuriating mechanics, just requires lots of killing and adapting your tactics to the modifiers / enemies. Its how these encounters should be without having to race around after the %@%$ing sword bearer whose gone walk abouts.

Theres lots of hate and discussion on reddit.

Its obvious its dviided the community with the PVP elite loving it and everybody else hating it. I think they will have to come to some kind of compromise to be honest. Even if you could get to the lighthouse on 9-3 streak instead of 9-0 it would be enough to give people a better chance. I suggested match making on reddit which went down like a lead balloon. "What do you mean the skilled players would have to play against other skilled players and wouldn't be able to stomp noobs, this mode is all about stomping noobs, its a competition "

I honestly don't see what the rush is to get to 34 anyway. I know we all want to be max level, but this DLC will have to keep us going until September at the very earliest, so I'm certainly not pushing myself to get through everything really quickly. I'll have one character up to 34 today/tomorrow and the other 2 will likely be next week, that's quick enough for me without pushing myself to do too much at once.

obtaining etheric light isn't really what you're working towards though is it ?

You're playing prison of elders each week to get the enjoyment. And you can't viablly run the 35 prison of elders all the time on 32 or 33. Thats why people want to be 34, not because once they get to 34 that's mission achieved.

Personally I'm a stamp collector type of player and enjoy collecting and ranking up weapons and armor. Once I've obtained everything worth having and ranked it all up and played the content several dozen times I lose enthusiasm.

I agree max level seems easier to hit now than before though still does rely on RNG somewhat. My problem, which existed before too, is trying to hit max level with armour I want. I got a chest piece doing PoE last night which instantly got my hunter to 32 but it's all strength and I would prefer Intelect or discipline.

I don't mind that it takes a while to get levelled up, I'm just a bit salty because RNG has been doing me over, while I've been seeing etheric drop for other people on NFs. The 34 was a good challenge last week, but I'd have preferred to not be under-level gimped, I was hoping one of the NFs would let me be 34 for this week's.

the solution here is just to farm etheric light over time.

Then you can upgrade your favorite legendary items to 42 light. Thinking a full set of Future War Cult intellect / discipline armor is the way forward :) You only have to do it under levelled a few times before you get enough to get your character to 34 without your favorite armor.

THen you can farm it over and over again each week to get the armor you do want upgraded.

Yah I've never been that bothered about getting 'good' rolls on armour, I'm happy with a fairly balanced mix.

Imo strength is underrated in PvE anyway, the sunsinger and defender melee overshield is awesome.

I don't really see the problem with enemies being a higher level. It's a challenge and one which lessens the closer you get to that level. I have no problem with Bungie using the higher levelled enemies as a difficult mechanic. If they'd done it right from the off with VoG, I doubt anyone else would either.

The people I know racing to 34 mainly want to feel like they can compete in ToO. Quite quickly I expect ToO just to be full of level 34s and not to be one is too much of a disadvantage...

Ive automatically ignored the mode as I know Im not a great PvP player...

That's something I need to do - get better armour with better perks because everything I have just pumps strength far too much.
Not sure it really makes any purposeful difference but would still prefer an even balance where possible.

Long term I'd like to have a full set of exotic and legendary so I can switch things up whenever I want.

Etheric Light I really need for my weapons more than anything right now. Most exotics are 365 as Shards are easy to come by but haven't upgraded any of my legendary weapons - so I'm stuck with whatever ones haver dropped since HoW and the rest sitting at 331, with some still at 300.

I basically just want legendary solar/arc/void variations for sniper, fusion, shotgun and rocket launcher all at 365. Then I can dismantle everything else I own, bar the exotics I like and tidy up my inventory.
It'l take some doing to get there though...but to start with I'm going to dismantle everything that isn't already one of those I need long-term.

Good luck buddy! Its frustrating this week. So many WTF moments with Dreg grenades, Shanks and cross map Vandal line rifles etc

I'll try and throw some neutrality in here. I agree that if they had a balanced connection/skill matching system then it could work out fairer than the current system. However:
- This system would still get cheesed, people would throw games on purpose at the end of the week, people would make new characters each week etc. The same thing happened in Halo 3.
- The Lighthouse mainly rewards burn primaries and the exotic emblem. Everything else can be rewarded through the packages and there is no limit to the amount of times you can run Trials until you get all the packages.
- Every week you have chances to get to the Lighthouse.

Genuine question, if I couldn't complete a raid because I had never played one before/wasn't that good at raiding. Would it be fair that I could play a raid against easier enemies and still get the same rewards as people who completed the harder level raid? Surely if someone doesn't play PvP, they can't expect to get the only exotic emblem in the game on the first weekend its released?

Therefore, I would say that they should have a ladder or tier ranked system. Where each tier you get to offers better rewards but puts you against harder teams due to being in a higher tier, so everyone has something to work towards. The same way you needed to play normal level raids to gear up for the better rewards of the harder raids.

I had three 34s by last weekend. Was swimming in Etheric light after two runs of ToO.

I have a full PoE armour set for my Titan, two pieces of ToO 42light armour on every character & I have upgraded every weapon that I love/need.

Weapons I've 365'd; Fatebringer, VoC, Corrective Measure, Praedyth's revenge, Hunger of Crota, Fang of it yut, Word of Crota & LDR.

I don't feel like it's game over though cos I want full PoE/ToO armour sets for all my characters & finding different modifiers on the prison a great way to shake things up.
