How do you explain to a Girl why the "Thunderchild" track makes Men cry?

"Thunderchild" (Jeff Wayne-War of the Worlds)

Gets me completely, every time!

Not all men certainly but a Lot of Men find "Thunderchild" a powerful emotional experience.

The other half doesn't really understand it however and I am finding it hard to explain.

(OTOH I have another lady friend who has a rather better understanding, but she is from a Navy family (And indeed, She had an Uncle who was killed on the Hood, albeit as a very young man and long before her time))

I have tears running down my face just writing this.

Those that understand will understand,

Those that don't will find it incomprehensible!

You have to explain it encapsulates fragile sentiments of honour and duty and the dedication to sacrifice oneself as a matter of duty against the surety of impending oblivion.

This requires a poll!

And the hope that's given and then taken away soon after.
