Hi motors,

Are Cat C repaired cars hard to insure usually? Are they much more expensive?

I wanted a fun little car to play around with, and found a very cheap MR2 roadster with 12 months MOT.

Bit more expensive is all.

I know of someone who bought an old Escort, one of the rare sporty rally pedigree ones which was Cat C. Apparently he had it assessed by some or other institution who declared it adequately repaired so the Cat C was dropped.

He lied about everything though, so do your homework on that one.

I've not heard much about increases in price for a CAT D/C. Given a CAT C has to go through a VIC check, there's not that much increased risk.

I don't think a mark can ever be removed, however. Once it's down as a Cat D/C, it's stuck like it.

Never heard of this affecting a premium before. I have had a couple of CatX cars and insurance was normal. I dont think the insurer even asks?

I think there is something in the list of assumptions about it never having been written off - no idea whether it affects the premium though, can't see why it would
