980 owner, go 980 SLI, or sell towards new cards?

As above, I'd wait and then if it doesn't turn out to be your cup of tea, look for a used 980 as I imagine there'll be a couple of people selling on to buy a 980Ti

hmmm tricky one. Have you used SLI before? Are you prepared to jump through a few hoops to get certain games running well without stutter, and put up with the fact that some games just run smoother on one card and there's chuff all you can do about it?

It will be cheaper to get another 980, and you will have a more powerful system, but if you just want to get on with gaming, and don't like tinkering, go for one 980Ti. Perhaps.

Any thoughts? Difficult one since we don't know the new card specs yet!

While we don't know the specs yet we do know that they will be better for sure I would wait and see what they bring too the table for sure it will bring a reduction on a 980 even if the newer cards don't offer anything else

Wait for the 980Ti Price/Performance then evaluate.

+2 (+5?)

Heck, I'd also wait for the new AMD cards as they could further shake things up. We have no clue what the Fiji XT will cost or how well it performs. If it's any good, it might also be an alternative to 980 SLI, even if it has only 4GB, since 980 SLI is also limited to 4GB. Further 980 price drops are an additional possibility. Plus its not long to wait. I start ordering parts for my new PC next week, but I'm still going to hold out on the GPU till AMD releases their new cards.

Rumour has it is, it is going to cost about the same as a Titan X, beating the Titan X in some benchmarks and losing out in others.

My desktop is currently a HD 7970, and I have been holding out for ages waiting on a 'really' worthwhile upgrade....thought the Fiji XT might well just be it, but I aint shellin out £900 for a GPU, built in water cooling or not.

Might just go for the 980 ti next week....if there are any with nice quiet fans.

i think ill just wait for new gen card pascal or done upgrading for now, these cards will be short lived i think

These cards were all meant to be on the 20nm process....but production problems have meant that both teams have stuck with 28nm. It is speculated that the next round of cards will go straight to the 16nm process, so I am guessing with with this subsequent generation, we will see momentus performance gains.......in 18 months time :(

Buy what you feel will be good for you. When the next generation of cards come and you ask this same question it will be the same response wait for the next generation again.

Since i have been reading hardware forums i always see this response .."wait until next card comes"..if I had a pound for each time i see that reply i would be retire

Yeah..but in this instance, waiting means waiting another few days for the 980 ti, and/or another 3 weeks for the AMD cards.

I have sat with an HD 7970 in my desktop since Jan 2012, and with each reiteration of new gfx cards, I have taken a look at the performance gains and the extra cost and have decided to 'wait'. But then that is the joy of sticking with 1080p. There hasn't really been any pressing need to upgrade or even just a normal 'need' to be honest.....With that said, I would like to play the Witcher 3 on total Ultra, with Hairworks On (currently playing on HIGH HW OFF on my laptop GTX 980m), so I will be eyeing up the up n coming gfx card releases with interest. But the prices have got to be right.....

From what I have heard, the Fiji XT with the watercooling and HBM memory is going to priced the same as Titan and offer similarish performance. So I certainly wont be shelling out for that.....which leaves the GTX 980 ti, performance stated to lie in between 980 and TX, price from rumoured any where between £550 and £700. If price is pretty damn close to the lower range of that scale, I might bite, but otherwise, it will be more damn waiting.

It is a question of how much value someone places on slightly better looking visuals up until this time next year, when the 14nm GPUs will be on the market offering vastly improved performance with 100% DX 12 compatibility.

Won't be great if that is the case and I doubt it will be. I would expect AMD to outperform on at least pricing, if not, who's going to buy that instead of a Titan X? If the best they can do it match the best nVidia can offer after this long a wait, roll on the next gen nVidia cards

I intend on keeping my 980 and getting another one for sli in the bargain bins for about £200 when they are sold off for the next generation (Pascal) next year sometime.

and so the cycle continues :p

Titan X performance, but in a card half the size thanks to the HBM memory and practically silent thanks to the built in water cooling. What's not to like?

If I was in the market for £1K worth of video card, it could well get my vote. As things stand, if the GTX 980 ti hits at around £500-£600, then that seems like the obvious choice for anyone looking to upgrade at this point in time.
