Looks nice but I'm surprised they've gone for sli based on the old gm204 cores, rather than dual 970s. I'd worry about the heat. Very odd given aorus' market is high spec gaming laptops, at a premium.

Looks awesome! Any more info/specs available? Price for example?

More spec details will be released later this week,,, watch this space.

Price will be sub £2,000

Some really nice "first to market features"

Will have very nice spec IPS screen, 16GB ram, 1TB HDD, 2 x 256GB SSD and very new generation processor :-)

Have had a play with one today in Taipei HQ,,,, and its impressive. G-sync works amazingly well and improves performance immensely.

This model also features "Hardware Live Stream Engine", first notebook to market using hardware rather than software....

Hope that gives a bit more of an insight

Regards,

Hi mrpetrov,

The choice of GPU is based on the chassis slimness and size, thermal performance on GTX965m enables us to get them in and performing nicely,,, GTX970m would be a squeeze, hence why these are reserved for the larger AORUS X7...

As you can see from the GPU performance tables, GTX965m in SLI still outperforms single GTX980m, so it wins on a number of levels from our perspective:-)

Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for the quick response atom and understood. What are the physical dimensions/weight? Any tentative release date (even month)? I own the x3 and I've enjoyed it, good bit of kit.

Hi mrpetrov,

No need for us to be tentative,,,, stock will be here within the month of June...

Glad you have continued to enjoy your X3 :-)

See the info below that I hope wets your whistle and answers your questions:-)

I love the comparison in your second post albeit it's missing 980m SLI ;))

HI thepharcyde,

The comparison is giving a fair account of SLI GPUs against the highest performing single mobile GPU on the market, for sure an SLI GTX980m is going to perform far quicker than either of the SLI GPUs that we currently offer within the AORUS Chassis.

However, the price is also considerably more.

We offer configurations at prices that compare and compete with single GTX980m units, but with superior performance. As the graph shows.

We are not comparing "apples and bananas" (not that you have said that, we are just using the term) or trying to mislead end users, simply giving a benchmark that people can understand, appreciate and help make informed decision on purchasing.

Additionally the only SLI GTX980M "laptops" that are available, barely fall into the "mobile" category... AORUS as a brand is focussed on developing performance, mobility, quality and style, at a value for money price point for the end user.

Thanks for the feedback and hope that clarifies.

Falcon Northwest TLX is essentially your equivalent in price and size albeit has 980m SLI

Thepharcyde, is the sli tlx really a fair comparison? The tlx looks a lot heavier (almost 30%), so not really a thin nd light gaming laptop at 3.2kg?

Hi thepharcyde,

We generally only compare with units that are sold within the UK market by UK re-sellers.

The unit you refer to maybe comparable in some ways, but as mrpetrov has mentioned, the weight and size are a fair bit higher than the AORUS X5.

I believe this unit is almost twice the depth of the AORUS X5 coming in around 43-44mm,,, not quite double our chassis profile, but not far away.

Thanks for you feedback anyway,

I am very tempted to get one of these laptops but i am in limbo as to get the x5 or the x7..... do you have any idea in terms of performance how much different they will be. the x5 is 3k res so im worried that you wont be able to play some games in high settings as you will take a large fps drop.

Or am i speaking rubbish :D should the 965m in SLI cope at 3k? i really like the idea of a 3k screen but im not sure how it will perform. 970m sli at 1080p i reckon will run like a dream.

Question for the gigabyte rep(s):

If I purchase an aorus laptop in the US, is the warranty still valid in the UK? Same pickup/return service in the UK, even if I buy it in the US?

Thanks!

Hi mrpetrov,

Our AORUS warranty is global, so yes it will be covered. Service may be affected slightly if service carried out in different country to that which the unit was purchased (ie if parts needed such as keyboard), but yes the warranty covers you.

Are you in US, or travel their regularly?

Hi napper90,

We will try and obtain some data from HQ to give you an idea on the FPS in different settings on the AORUS X5.

We saw it on max settings in Taiwan last week @ Computex and the performance and appearance was outstanding.

Hope to come back to you soon with something concrete for comparison.

Thanks,
