Just received said monitor and first impressions are good and i've calibrated it as per the TFTCentral review - ICC Profile, 22 brightness, RGB 48 49 49 and everything else left default. I'm finding that Whites and Greys are a touch dull and muddy for my liking and I was wondering how i should go trying the changed them without making everything else look a bit rubbish? The very last thing in the world I am is a monitor expert so any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

I got this monitor recently as well. The only thing I did was: Colour temp to User, Red to 49 and brightness to around 40 (default was too bright for my liking) and everything was spot on. The best whites I've ever seen on any screen.
I didn't bother with any ICC profiles.
However I'm returning mine due to excessive backlight bleed.

Mine is pretty damn glowy but i sent back 4 BenQ's before getting this and i dont know if I have the energy to send back a 5th monitor. I also worry no competitor hinting please! might start to get difficult about it.

if those settings don't seem to look right (and they won't work for every sample or PC setup) you could maybe try some by-eye calibration using the tests at lagom.nl. restore the screen to default first though :)

Thanks Baddass, i'll check that site out.

I dont suppose you have any tips on how best to capture bleed and/or glow on camera, bearing in mind the best camera i have access to is my dads iPhone 6?

for what purposes do you need to capture it? are you returning the monitor or trying to identify if there's an issue?

It's just that i returned four BenQ's and although the glow is less intense on this AOC i'd just like to capture it and see what people think in terms of it being too much or perfectly acceptable.

i'd say then just take a photo even with an iphone in a darkened room from at least 2 m back. try and get a head on view and set monitor brightness to a normal comfortable day to day level, as opposed to default 100% or anything.

note that if you capture it head on from a distance you shouldn't pick up much/any of the IPS glow, only any bleed from the backllight
