Hey Guys,

I need some help.

I need to wire 4 x 60volt Bulbs to a 240Volt Supply.

Me and my mate been arguing about the way to do it and i think i am right.

Red = 240volt + In - Positive
Green = Connecting Wire
Blue = 240volt - Out - Negative

Each holder would have a 60volt bulb in this completing the circuit for a 240volt supply

Is this right ? if not how should it be done ?

Apologies for poor paint skills lol

...and just like old school christmas lights - when one of them goes, they all go...

Yes*, the AC voltage would be divided by the series resistance of the filaments.

what was your friends idea?

*although I don't know what other assumptions you may be making here :)

its hard to explain he's a plank though lol

Thanks

For anybody wondering the reason its 60V bulbs it the strips of 12 lights 3 x 4 bulb circuits will be going on a fair ground ride, for some reason they use 60v bulb i guess it cos they are small and can be easily wired for 110v as well, think they are cheap and easily replaced as well

I'm guessing they are 60v so as to get down near touch voltage? Odd way though.

110 would be a better plan if it is as you only have 55v either side of earth.

I think (and this is a dim and distant memory) that many fairgrounds used to run on generator sourced power at circa 60V or 110V DC. Because it was fairly 'safe' voltages and easier to generate when electricity was younger. They also used to get away with some absolute horrors of mains distribution at these voltages.

Think a block of wood with a positive and negative nail in it. No earthing, wrap your wire around the nail!
