This is the exact reason I don't think amd have a tx/ti beater, guess only time will tell. If they do have a serious contender they have played it very poorly.

Don't think AMD can beat out the GM200 cards, this is why the 980 Ti comes using a chip with 256 cores disabled. If NV felt they were going to be under pressure they would have launched the 980 Ti with all the cores enabled.

Sounds like everyone thinks, one card from AMD, and its game over for Nvidia, lol, what an absolute load of ****, Fijis not going to save em, come on.

How ever good the Fiji cards are I think most AMD users are going to be unhappy about the likely retail price as we are talking about some serious new tech here and it costs.

Why on earth would they hang onto the 980 Ti, when they can get it out there, doing for them what it should be doing, making em money.

Agreed, you would think they would, as they'll know the 980 Ti's, and reduced in price 980s are going to be absolutely flying off the shelves, and i can't see anyone whos buying those cards now, suddenly getting shot in around 3 weeks for a Fiji, thats a bloody boat load of sales gone for AMD.

Yup but then again this is AMD.... :p

Well that's the thing, even if AMD have a killer GPU. Nvidia need only adjust it's prices to put even more pressure on. AMD have to regain lost market share before gaining any.

With Fiji rumoured to be launching around the same time as Batman Arkham Knight which is another Nvidia sponsored title free with Nvidia's cards. Nvidia know what they are doing. Focus will be on that game and it's possible we could see another Wicther 3 / Project Cars situation where AMD falls behind again despite having decent hardware.

AMD's Fiji needs to be good, it needs to be fast, at least one variant needs to be well priced VS 980 Ti. Most importantly it needs to actually be launched.

Too late now for amd, the ti is out and will no doubt sell loads. Don't see how amd can charge any more than the ti as it won't be fast enough to justify that sort of price, so I'm thinking around £499-£550 which is too much for me anyway, think I will be skipping this lot to be honest, not enough oomph for the dosh. :)

Sticking it out for that elusive die shrink eh? Better be next gen

First pic of Fiji GPU die with HBM

Interesting.

If we assume that, that is indeed the cold plate of the Fiji cooler, a couple of things come to mind.

1, No heat spreader.

I really thought AMD would use one, but if they haven't then it might allow for slightly better direct die cooling.

2, Different height of the core and memory stacks.

This surprises me, it doesn't allow for both the memory stacks and the core to be in direct contact with the core. It seems to completely negate any advantages of not putting a heat spreader on it.
Also it might make changing out the stock cooler a little more tricky as getting the right amount thermal paste will be crucial.

3, No PCB cooling.

If the card is as previously pictured with no fan other the ones on the radiator, then the rest of the card is not going to get any cooling at all, seeing as the cold plate is only covering the die and memory stacks. hopefully there will be some additional heat sinks on the other vital components, but with now airflow I'm not sure how well that will work.

4, Definitely only 4GB.

The image clearly shows 4 memory stacks, so that confirms 4GB.

All of this kinda makes me want that image not to be accurate, but I do feel that it is.

Lets just hope that the thing really, really performs and comes in at a good price.

I really don't understand what this fuss about support and drivers is all about. For vast majority (excluding small percentage of CFX users) drivers work just as well as Nvidias.

There are driver releases for most major AAA titles on day one (GTA5) or few days later when you're dealing with Nvidia title like W3.

Weren't the GTA V drivers the only day 1 drivers so far this year?

You are looking at the image wrong. The HBM is in contact with the cooler. This image makes it clearer.

and that doesnt make sense as the limitation is quoted as 1 stack per 4GB. thus the interposer being needed for 8GB.

Unless its a 16GB monster..... or we still have no clue about HBM :P

~edit~ ah no, its 1 GB a stack to make 4GB. ignore!

Could be a lower tiered card. who knows....AMD

Ah yes you could well be right there.

That would make more sense, I was wondering just how AMD could be that daft. :)

Points 3 and 4 still stand though.
