Anyone every used a new car discount site ?

Do you mean brokers like Broadspeed, Drivethedeal, etc?

If so, then yes, tons of people have used them. The concept is simple: strong relationships and huge buying power to help drive prices down for everyone.

Yup I used new car discount and was th best thing ever. So so easy and then are really helpful (if you want a contact there then message me in trust as if I recommend you, you get £50)

I've used DriveTheDeal.

Effortless process and would recommend them.

I tried getting a local dealer to price match but they wouldn't and in future I won't even waste my time trying!

We've bought 2 through drivethedeal this year. Both went without hitch, but you can't p/x in most cases.

We got close to the price with carwow, who put you in tough with the dealer so better transparency.

It's like the insurance comparison sites, in one theory adding a middle party who take payment somewhere increases the cost, in practice the good negotiators and buying power leaves you better off, unless you are already an unbelievable negotiator.

Also the brokers will have effectively have done the legwork for you i.e. it would be a lot of hassle to go round all the dealers trying to negotiate the best price; you could contact 10 different dealers but miss out number 11 that can squeeze that little bit of extra margin for whatever reason.

Sadly DTD seem to have upgraded their 1990s website, some people used to think they were a bit dodgy because of it :)

I bought a Citroen Van new, cheapest deal I could get.
It turned out great, it was delivered by a bloke called Steve, who then had to get the train home.

I used carwow and was going to travel a few hundred miles because the price was so good but I started emailing dealers closer to home and one matched it 50 miles away.

I almost went with drivethedeal for my Fiesta ST but my local dealer down the road managed to get within a couple of hundred of them so i went with them instead. I have heard good things though, generally. As there was only a couple of hundred in it in my case I preferred the idea of buying it and picking it up just down the road.

Yes I think that is what most people will do, use brokers as a benchmark and see if they can get something in the same ballpark from a more local dealer (easier if there are problems etc). I suspect dealers are getting more used to it now.... although I'd love to hear the arguments they come out with as to why you shouldn't trust the broker price or what disasters/hassle it will have in store :)

To be honest the local dealers I spoke to when trying to get a good deal didn't try to bad mouth the brokers too much. They were quite honest and simply said that it was because of the volume of sales the brokers can get, and without that volume of sales they would find the brokers price hard to match.

I used a broker 10 years ago when I bought my X-Type. Local dealers couldn't get near the price so I ended up travelling to the main dealer (HA Fox in Guildford) to pick up the car. Can't remember the broker name, but they closed up shop - not sure why. It was owned by Inchcape, so not a fly-by-night jobbie.

Two years ago I used orange wheels (after suggestions from here) for the XJ and my local dealer (Rybrook Chester) were very very close to the broker price, so I went with them.

I think the difference over time is that dealers know that the brokers are out there and so are much more inclined to give the best deal they can. I got very short-shrift 10 years ago, whereas all they did this time round is double check they saw the same on the broker site.

When the different was thousands, people will put up with the train ticket and travel hassle - when its down to a few hundred quid I reckon most will stick to the local dealer instead.

Brokers are nothing new. I remember adverts for them in car magazines in the 80's and 90's. What the internet did was put them online and force the premium manufacturers to play ball as well. I never used to see Merc, BMW, Jag etc covered, it was just Ford, Vauxhall and their ilk.

I used DriveTheDeal at the end of last year for my CLS - got a whisker over £11k off list price, whereas CarWow managed to get to about £8.5k off. Local dealer managed about £7k off only......all went very smoothly, would highly recommend.
For wifety's XC60, which we collected a month back, CarWow actually came back with the best price, about £300 less than DtD, but - in the end - our local~ish dealer (30miles away) matched the deal and we were more than happy to buy from them. All in all, close to £8k off list.

Seems like drivethedeal and carwow are popular.

I assume no one appears to have had bad experiences, or at least bad enough to warrant posting about it?

Currently using CarWow to order a new one. Takes away the annoying time consuming haggling.

My local dealer would not even return an online test drive request. Or call back after the test drive.

Seems to depend partly on brand as to which site will be cheaper. http://www.cars2buy.co.uk/ seems to search offers for the spec you want.

Can't wait for delivery. :)

My mate does this for a living. He gets to drive some awesome cars, travels all over the country and Loves his job, even with the train rides home.
