Remaking Big Trouble in Little China

LOL. Was just about to post a thread about this. :p

Not surprising I guess that Hollywood has found yet another classic film to remake. Damn you Hollywood. :(

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

Regardless of how this turns out, Dwayne is not a good choice, although given he pitched the idea to Hollywood, maybe choice isn't the right word. Someone else on another forum mentioned that he isn't the right choice to play Burton, and I have to agree. He's too big and imposing to play Burton, in the same kind of film.

I think they will have to make it a more serious balls to the wall action film, something where big Dwayne would fit in. Trying to recreate the original in all it's wonderful wacky glory, would be foolish.

I can't see how they can remake this today. It is a cult film of its time and a modern audience wouldn't get its wackiness if released today. They'll have to take out everything that made the original so great and it will become some cookie-cutter action film with shaky cameras, bay-splosions and screens chocked full of CGI crap.

I actually think he's about as good of a choice as there is to play Burton, I can't think of another actor who could pull off the action and comedy needed to do it? Quite looking forward to it to be honest.

Shuuuuuut up, Hollywood. You were not put on this earth to "get it"!

This brought back some funny memories of using this line on friends at school and for getting in trouble with a teacher when I said it to her in junior school :D

Oh no Hollywood what the heck are you doing!!! :(

One of my top 10 movies of all time about to be **** on from a great height by Hollywood... yet again!

Oh and... I'm gonna tell you about an accident, and I don't wanna hear "act of God"!

I agree.. The Rock could be great as Burton. Most of his characters have the same cocky wit, sarcasm, quips and one liners as Russell had back then. I think it could be great BUT I also think the way to go is the sequel.

That is going to be fifty shades of awful. A cult film ruined. You are never, never going to better Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall in that movie.

I like Dwayne in a lot of stuff, but he also makes some bad choices (Tooth Fairy, etc), and this is one of them. He needs to find his own franchise instead of hamstringing himself by going after a cult classic where he (and the remake) will be compared badly to the original.

It doesn't matter how glossy or gritty you make it, doesn't matter how you improve the special effects, the original will always win on the charm and charisma of the actors that made it work the first time around. You can't replace that with green-screen effects and a bigger budget.

meh - will be awful.

why not remake some bad films and make them better instead of the reverse.

Exactly what I was wondering earlier, but when you think about it, it's fairly obvious why they don't.

They only give a toss about how much money they can make out of it. How good it is, or how many classic films they **** on order to get their money is not important to them.

It's far easier for them to sell a remake of a successful and much loved film, than it is to sell a remake of a crap film no one liked.

People pay to see these garbage remakes and reboots, and as long as they continue to so, Hollywood will continue to churn them out.
