Really had it with these cards lately, a lot of lockups in games, and performance generally doesn't feel as good as it should. I'm not sure whether to go for something now or wait until fully DX12 compatible cards come out (as im getting a free upgrade to win10).

Thought of a few options:
pick up a pair of 290's
Wait for the DX12 cards
Nvidia? not sure what i can get from them.

Looking to spend ~300 and get roughly similar performance to the cards i have now. may spend a bit more if needed.

Is that 300 including money from sale of cards.

You won't find anything for 300 with similar performance.

Your best bet would be a 980 at nearer 400, I think

300 was inc the sale of the cards, but i'd put a bit more in if needed.

the 290's i saw were £320 delivered (tri-x cards, but id be watercooling anyway) Im just not sure if it would be worth waiting for a DX12 card instead

I've done a similar exercise with 7970 XF and I can't replace them with anything a lot better without spending quite a lot of money. Certainly more than I would want to on a 28nm card. I'll wait for the next lot, will probably get something quite a bit faster without having to spend too much, fingers crossed!

I would wait until AMD release their refresh, who knows what you mind find for a good price? I am hoping to get a 980 GTX for £300 or thereabouts.

I had 7970+7990 trifire, so a similar setup. I was running a RoG Swift without gsync (I wanted a 144hz 1440p monitor).

I then went to a single 980, which was a downgrade in benchmarks but was 1000000x better in terms of gaming experience. I did eventually add a 2nd, more for the fact that I felt strange going backwards in performance.

The 2nd card is nice but I could cope with one.

I'd look to a single 980 or 980ti to replace your trifire setup.

I should probably add a bit more info, I play 2560x1080p@60fps, 2 cards were good enough, the third was really insurance in case i came across a game that was too much for 2, but 90% of the time it's been overkill. just lately though they all run horribly in crossfire, but they're all ok individually.

mainly play cod, BF, wolfenstein, ESO. other games too but they're probably the most demanding of the lot. I like to max them where i can or just go as high as possible and hold 60fps.
