Hi,
I need help with choosing the right equipment. Not sure what exactly it is I'm looking for but here's what I'm wanting to do...

I have two rooms:
Room 1 - Here is my main/master Windows PC. This is a Z97/4790k/GTX 980 build where I sit most of the time, if I'm not gaming then browsing the web/emails and that sort of standard day to day routines.
PC is connected to router via ethernet here and it's where I'm doing large 1080p blu-ray MKV's/ISO's off newsgroups.
I don't really have a mechanical HDD in the PC, just an SSD for OS/games/apps etc.

Room 2 - This is my home cinema room where all my AV gear lives.
My AV receiver is also a network receiver which is plugged in via ethernet and it can easily find and playback music stored on my main PC in room 1.
In this room, I also have an Oppo BDP-93 blu-ray player which is also DLNA ready.
Normally, I use the Oppo player to find and playback movies stored on my main PC in room 1 but with files that are in the BDMV>STREAM format, the Oppo can only play the main video file. (Sometimes the film will be made up of a hundred small files) but I don't know exactly which file is the main film file. This is getting annoying so looking at another solution.

I've been told I can get a NAS drive which connects to my router and everything I download on my main PC in room 1, I can set it so it downloads in the hard drives in the NAS drive. Is this right?
Also, I will be able to access any media files on my Oppo in room 2 via the NAS drive.
I'm not sure which NAS to choose from. there's so many different ones out there and some single core/some dual core - is this going to affect my playback of 1080p videos with lossless HD audio?
Do these NAS drives come with some sort of OS?

Budget dependant of course.

Buy Synology NAS and Raspberry Pi 2. Get a NAS with a decent CPU, nothing like the PowerPC ones etc. Then put your downloader (eg sab) and sickbeard/couchpotato onto the NAS. Plug the Pi into your network and into your AV amp. Then use that to play the content using OSMC or similar.

Okay cheers man, I'll have a look into this.

I use a 415+ with 4 3 TB drives, although they're fast filling up as I rip my own Blu Rays. I play them back on an i3 NUC, however it's probably overkill. The Pi 2 (and Pi) will do 1080p up to Blu Ray quality, but the 2 is a lot faster at looking through your library etc. I run Openelec on my NUC and it runs like a dream.

When streaming the 1080p files, will this allow me to playback multichannel HD audio like DTS-HD MA/Dolby TRUEHD?

Yes, if the playback device supports HDMI passthrough and of course the amp can decode it.

Can I do what I'm wanting to do with a basic synology device like this one here https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-073-SY&groupid=46&catid=2125
I just need my Oppo to find the files on the NAS and I know the Oppo will play them at full quality.
I did this previously with serviio installed on my PC but recently watercooled my rig so I had to remove the HDD's to fit the reservoir hence I'm now in the market for a NAS.
Cheers
