Budget is a slightly flexible 2k. Two weeks in total.

Want to go out side of Europe. My last big holiday was to Thailand in 2013. I went to Bangkok - Koh Samui and Koh Tao.

I am currently considering a trip to Japan in Oct - Nov 2015.

I will be travelling alone.

A friend has recommended I go to Vietnam and that area, as he says it will be better for lone tourists/backpackers.

What do you guys think?

I have been to Vietnam twice in last 15 months, it's awesome

I have to agree. Its dirt cheap once you are there, the food is fantastic and there is plenty to see. We had a great time there.

Dubai / Abu Dhabi, just coz 'Nam is already out there. But it seems it has everything now, enough to keep you occupied for 2 weeks anyway. It's out of europe, it's tax free so bargains!, there's a good mix of old and new, a great range of food, great beaches, water parks, skiing, desert bashing, markets, river trips etc etc etc.

Vietnam.

Planned properly you can go for 3 weeks on that money easily. Look up Tonkin Travel on the intarweb - we used them to book our itinerary. It's also really popular with Aussies so backpacking is easy and infrastructure is good for lone travellers

Jump on a cruise ship and have some luxury pampering. Is the only way to holiday ;) I just got back from Northern Europe - unlimited food and drink for a week is awesome while checking out Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

I would say your budget is a bit light for Japan, it is seriously expensive when your there especially if you want to pack a lot in. South East Asia will offer you much better value for money once your done with the flights, Vietnam is great fun and a seriously beautiful country and I can also recommend Cambodia it is my favourite country in the region everyone is incredibly friendly and the food is heavily French influenced which results in some amazing fusion stuff and the best bread I've had outside Europe!
