Was having a look at the photo montage of him on the BBC and he aged a hellavu lot in the past 2-3 years.Sounds like heart attack caused by years of the demon drink. His alcoholism got really out of control the last few years.
RIP

Genuinely nice guy...almost too nice to be in politics. The Commons could have done with a few more members like him, irrespective of political leanings.

I always thought a disease was something different like a harmful pathogen in the body or something.

Newspapers are acting like Salmond was criticising Kennedy here, but it doesn't really read like it to me. Reads more like he was saying he never got the opportunity to champion the YES (to EU) campaign for the referendum next year. Are they using his death to opportunistically bash Salmond?

From what I can gather, Salmond was plugging the independance issue whilst speaking about someones death

"Finally I only mentioned the Better Together campaign at all because I was asked a direct question about it. As early as the beginning of last year Charles was one of the first unionist politicians to realise that the result would be close and said publicly that he felt that the actions of the No campaign were contributing to this."
You gather wrong. He was asked directly about Charles Kennedy's involvement in the Better Together campaign and he gave an honest answer.
Kennedy was on record multiple times criticising the campaign.

It is nothing but a disgusting attempt by a notoriously unionist tory journalist (Alex Massie) to use the death of a well respected politician to smear Alex Salmond.
I get that Kennedy wasn't very happy with the No campaign, many people weren't. As a person that lives is England but works in Scotland, I thought the No campaign was very poor and looked like it was ran by people wanting to lose.
That said, saying Kennedy's heart wasn't in for the No campaign despite supporting the No was what people are complaining about, unless what Salmond said was fabricated
If you're openly criticising something then clearly your heart is not in it. Don't get confused between the campaign and the cause.
