Want new car - cheap as possible though...

With car leases, many of them have ~£0-200 set up fee, then £100 a month for 36 months. (limited mileage)

After that you can either return the car and take out a new one, or spend £x000 to buy it from them.

You cannot buy the car at the end of a lease, you must return it

You can buy the car on a PCP (which isnt a lease) but you do generally need a reasonable deposit to make it sensible

I doubt I can afford £177 a month + petrol costs, I also assume at the end of the term I won't own the car?

Cheap focus. I sold a very nice condition Mk1 1.5 1.6 Focus Zetec for £1000 ages ago. Get something just like that.

Very reliable, fit for purpose, economical, and quite spacious.

if there is nothing else wrong with the car have you thought about replacing the drivers seat?
If it was me being that skint and the only problem was the seat, I'd address that issue directly - spending a couple of k on a different car could still end up with money needing to get spent and is a bit of a risk

New job closer to home :)

I had one, then I got a new jobs for the better prospects, but doesn't appear to have worked out :(

And a chiropractor. :p

I would go for the mondeo or something if I was in you're position rather than finance/lease.

Would like a Mondeo but don't think it's the best option currently, so I'll look at a Focus as I did a few years ago when I had some spare cash :o

I'll have a look around, I prefer the MK2 shape and most are about the same price.

I did describe above but it;s not always just the Seat, the fact I can't pull the steering wheel out, or that I can't actually stretch my legs, or that the pedals appear to be further in to the car than other cars are the other problems :o

I did look at a Sport seat (from a Clio) as said earlier, but even that was a £100 or so. The car is a 51 plate so it's getting on and I can see things slowly going down from here.

You should find the Mk1.5 Focii noticeably cheaper than the Mk2. Personally in your situation i would recommend a good decent condition Mk1.5 over a ropey Mk2 even if the Mk2 is in theory a better car.

The older ones are just as reliable and just as spacious.:)

Didn't realise they existed tbh, I'll take a peak.

People have mentioned that to me.

They dont look the best but for i reckon they are the best car for your situation, you should find loads of cheap good ones around, the mk1.5 looks like this:

Better than the early early models (mk1)

True. Been looking around on AT and seen some lower mileage MK1's (not looked for 1.5 yet) for 2K+, then some MK2s starting from 2K to 2.5

I just figured if I can get a decent MK2 it wont be older than an 05, whereas I don;t think the MK1/1.5 went much more than 05?

You won't get a mk2 for £1-1.5k, but you will get a nice mk1.5 as above. I prefer it over the mk2 anyway unless you're lucky enough to find a needle-in-haystack well specced mk2. If anything the interior of the mk1 looks and feels more solid.

Mate with respect youve got no cash :D (i dont mean that horribly!)

The Mk1.5 is the car to be at for no money, spend £1k on one thats all you should need :) The age of them means nothing, they are the same from 2001 to 2004/5.

Worked out if I did £100 a month over two years that just under 2.5k, hence looking at the MK2 :)

Naturally I'd either need to get a 0% card (which I've done before) or see if someone else can lend the money.

That and I'd rather it had less miles on it though as I won't be changing again any time soon
