sorry if this has been asked before but what is the best way to clean up a motherboard after coolant has got on it as one of my tubing was spilt when doing a leak test

pc was not turn on at the time as was using a paper clip to jump start the psu

I'm a little loath to give advice here, as I don't really know a lot about coolant conductivity - so please take this with a pinch of salt (no pun intended).

If you're using a proper coolant it shouldn't be very conductive and shouldn't leave impurities behind that cause short circuits.

So - if it were me (and in no way am I advising you do this) I'd dry the motherboard overnight in a warm place (airing cupboard?), check it's really really dry the next day and then give it a test.

This could, however, be a bit of a fire/electrical hazard so your best bet is probably to throw away any components that have been drenched and buy new ones, just to be safe.

It would be best to leave it in the airing cupboard for more like 3-4 days rather than just one if you're intending to be thorough. That's after mopping most of it off with earbuds and Isopropyl alcohol.

If you're worried about something going up in smoke, then simply move it away from flammable objects before firing it up again. It's not worth chucking valuable electronic equipment away without first making sure it no longer functions.

Generally I use tissue, or some sort of absorbent material.

I remember spilling it all down the back of my mobo, mopped up what I could, left it for a little bit and it was fine. In terms of stains, i'm unsure, never checked. :p

It depends on how much leaked, to be honest. If it's a couple of drops, I've been known to pat it down with tissue, leave it for a couple of hours with a fan pointed towards it and away you go after that. If it's a torrent of water, then you might want to be a bit more thorough.

thanks for the replies the cooled was mayhems x1 premix blood red, mixed with distilled water aroud half a liter,

it was more than a couple of drops, it mainly when in the second pci slot and the usb slots,

i have blow the places where it was to see if any coolant come out, i cleaned it with tissue i think i got most of the stains off

its been drying for around 8hours now

i have had a motherboard get water before if no coolant get in the socket just lave it over night to dry

If it was a dyed coolant getting in PCI slots, then I would have actually rinsed the thing under a tap first while it was still liquid, then let it dry for at least a week. Otherwise dye is likely to be left behind when the water evaporates.
