Security guard injured in Texas Muhammed cartoon conference

Well there are firearms and Muslims involved so I already know what TYT will say about it without watching it.

Cenk really has no credibility after the Sam Harris event.

Well i kinda usually agree with most of what Cenk from TYT says, so thats where i get my news feed from.

Nobody agrees with my views

I don't think that is the case at all. You tend to be pretty much spot on from an idealist point of view. For me though life has taught me the world we live in is far from idealistic and what we decide in the Ivory towers of academic investigation doesn't often actually work in reality.

Idealism determines the destination, realism the next step. Both are required to make the journey. (is how I view it anyway)

if these right wing gun nuts/militia types can turn up at muslim events/venues and protest while carrying assault rifles then surely muslim groups are allowed to protest at the draw Mohammed events while carrying military style rifles... only fair right?

tis rather ridiculous, fortunately most muslim groups in the US are sensible enough not to do something like that

not that I'm a big fan of Islam, frankly I think it sucks just like any organised religion, but people should be as free to practice it unhindered as they are free to mock it and draw the prophet... turning up at the opposition's venue carrying assault rifles is bang out of order

maybe it would take something like an Islamic group forming their own militia in the US for the various states to actually start to do something about gun nuts/militia groups and carrying military style weapons in public

no human endeavour will ever explain existence; the mere nature of existence is so knowingly beyond our comprehension, humility is obviously appropriate.

I wouldn't make absolute statements about what humans may or may not be able to explain. Though humility is appropriate.

Idealism determines the optimum destination - realism determines how close to that you can get.
I'd say at this stage we can't say exactly how close we can get, it's a moving target. Realistically we can only move in the stages confined to the information we posses.

Essentially all we can do is move towards a given goal, without knowing for certain if it will or will not be achieved.

Apologies for the thread derail :p
