is firefox the new internet explorer?

I love Firefox, always have but it's really starting to cause a problem now...

That went even higher as well until I closed the tab I was running with a Flash video present (the new Three home page).

Is there any kind of Firefox cleanup tool around? And does anyone know if Mozilla are actually doing anything about the Flash problem?

Heaved off Firefox after a spate of recent bugs just the other week and moved to Opera (which was the first browser that I used after moving off of IE.)

The bug that broke the camels back was something wrong with scrolling after I set up my new rig. Sometimes 1 click of the wheel would scroll 3 lines, sometimes 6 and then when I'd stop scrolling it'd jump back whenever it pleased. No other application did this.

Other bugs that I'd had with Firefox included it just hanging for 2 - 3 seconds for no reason. The tab bar graphically corrupting when changing tab. Youtube playing videos at a snails pace when other browsers worked fine. Oh and thumbnails getting lost on tab groups, a bug which has been in their bug tracker for years now with numerous promised fixes, none of which materialised.

Really enjoying Opera and I can recommend it to anyone. uBlock is available on it and that's all I need. Also it imported all my bookmarks and history from firefox so the swap was painless!

There is clearly something wrong with some configurations of Firefox. My one has been fine 99% of the time and since the latest round of major updates, it's been great at RAM usage. This is just now, the browser has been left open since yesterday.

About 2 years ago, when i built my rig i decided it was finally time to move off ie (yep i was that guy....)

It was also the same time i started using the mobile internet more, and after going through pretty much every android browser available (including ff for android) i settled on opera as it was the only android browser that could play video content properly. (you'd think chrome of all things would have had flash support on android but nope...)

So i did the same thing on the pc, and settled with opera there too, even then with just the raw browsers opera was the only one that was better performance wise than ie (as far as i could tell).

Currently run opera with adblock+ on all my pc's apart from work, i'll have to get it on there too. Some bits of the ui are perhaps a bit clunky (like the normal bookmarks, i preferred the older syste ) and the speed dial icons wont always load when you add a page, but for general usage i'd reccommend it over ie, ff and chrome any day.

I detest Flash for that reason. Everything is set to ask. Flash is even a porker for Chrome.

and the speed dial icons wont always load when you add a page

I'm not sure if I'm mis-understanding you but if you add a speed dial, then click it to open the page and there is a little heart icon on the right of the address bar. Click that and it'll bring up a popup with a left and right arrow which allows you to change what icon that speed dial uses.

I now used latest Hola version bundled with Firefox browser to watched Netflix USA movies.

It really shame I been watched Netflix on Chrome with Hola extension for months but now Google removed Hola from Chrome web store and Hola no longer updated Chrome extension since v1.7.955 after Google blocked extensions outside Chrome web store.

The standalone Hola v1.8.204 now only worked with bundled Firefox browser and not worked with Internet Explorer and Chrome.

I have 13 addons but I am no where near that usage of RAM... on average I see about 300mb. It was closer to 500mb before I moved from ABP to uBlock.

Okay, I've had enough now, I'm not even using any flash atm! It's got so laggy just lately.

What's the easiest way of migrating to Chrome - I just need favourites really.

Edit: okay, actually I am using Flash. Deezer is running :)

Have you not tried properly uninstalling it? User profile and all? And reinstalling it from scratch? Do you use Firefox Sync?

I've got 2 tabs open, one with a flash video player, and it's using 350mb... you've got something seriously wrong.
