Hi
Booked my flights to go europe next week for a month. Was getting my stuff ready, checked my passport and realised it had expired in january...
My previous passport was a child acc? I was nt over 18. Now I am
So I asked some ppl and this is what I am planning to do.
1. Ring the passport office tomorrow morning at 8. Book an appointment (what am i meant to ask?)
2. Get my passport pictures taken
3. Go peterborough in the morning of the appointment day and give my passport, passport form, photo's and money?

Is this all I need to do?
Is there anything else I would need?
Any advice would help.
Thanks
My dad is not in the country atm so he is not there to help.

If it's within the EU, and you are an EU citizen (not a bomb carrying terrorist) it may be worth calling the airline to check.

Otherwise it's an expensive last minute trip to the passport office for a quickie renewal, make sure you are confident you have all the nessesary pictures /ID, beforehand to avoid a wasted visit!

I used to work for them......

Do not ever book anything for overseas travel unless you have a valid passport!! That said....

You will need? and this will get you a passport guaranteed!

Fill in application form and submit previous passport.
Get 2 photos done get it counter signed, you might not need this but it will deffo get you ppt.
Doc, nurse or anyone who owns Limited Co.
Don't smile and take your hat off for photo.

As you are over 18 you will not need permission from parents.

You will be on PASS! "Passport application system" so you should be ok without counter sig.

Am thinking as I go so bear with me.....

Docs

Prev Passport and birth cert just in case, driver licence if you have one and the PPt form.

You should be ok then, so long as they can trace you through the system you be ok. ;)

Get a passport urgently

You must book an appointment at a Passport Customer Service Centre if you’re in the UK and need a passport urgently, eg within a month. After the appointment, you can get your passport the same day or within a week.

Choose the service you want to use

You can’t use these services if you’re applying online or for certain types of passport - eg a first adult passport.

The Premium service means you’ll get your passport within 4 hours of your application being accepted. You must go to the Passport Customer Service Centre to collect it.

The Fast Track service means your passport is delivered to your home address within 1 week of your application being accepted.

Use the Post Office Check and Send service, or apply by post or online if you don’t need your passport within a month.
You can't fast track when getting your first adult passport

Hard luck

Confused, if you hold your own full British /EU passport, which expired Jan 15, you can fast track it.

If you're upgrading from a child passport you're probably buggered

I do hold my own British passport, however when i renew it, it would now be an adult one?

you have a child passport, you need an adult one, this would be your first adult passport which according to the link I provided can't be fast tracked

I just rang them today at 8 and got it booked premium 1 day service.
the first adult passport does only apply to a person who does not have a passport.

Because you have had a childs passport you just go through normal renewal. Book premium appointment and 4 hours later youll get new passport. Its vital you have all documents and your photos are correct though. They won't let you come back if they are not and youll have to book another appointment

edit. seems youve already do it!

I was going to say, i got my first adult passport with the same day service without any problems.

I thought you didn't need the birth cert if changing from a child to adult passport, just the form and new photos?

Thats correct but occasionally they ask for more so its always best for appointments to bring as much as possible, just in case.

Make sure the name you give hem for your new passport is the same as the name under which you have booked your tickets. Be amzed how many mupppets do not know their own name when it comes to booking flights.
