Hi guys.

NCB discounts for car insurance. I seem to have a problem, I have a policy which has been on my impreza for 5yrs 10 months now. With 5 full years NCB (will be 6 years NCB in August)

However I got a company lease car 2 years ago, and I was insured as a "generic employee" not named. However as I was the sole user I advised my company that if the insurance was as a named driver (myself only) and setup for business usage, then the policy would be much less. This was the case indeed. So last June I organised the insurance myself, and my company just paid for it. It was quite high as the price of the insurance was £1800 for a BMW with zero NCB (company car insurance for any employee was £2800) so I saved my company £1000. Now the policy has ended and Ive just got a letter saying that my insurance NCB on this company car policy is now 6 years (but it is only 1 year)

I have checked my policy proposal on the company car and the proposal shows that I have 5 years NCB on another vehicle.
It seems that my company car insurer has decided to use that 5 years NCB which is still running on impreza on my company car insurance.

I swapped my policy on my company car to a new insurer as they were cheaper with 1 years NCB. than my quote from my insurer I have used for the last 12 months. But I'm worried about there being a database and if i have any accident something being classed as fraudulent.

Basically is there a central database for NCB etc that I can get checked to ensure that I have 2 NCB lines.... one with 5 years NCB (soon to be 6) and another with 1 years NCB? Because I think both policys decided to use the same 5 years NCB last summer in error (even though the company car insurance was priced with no NCB)

Seems odd to me, when I used to run my Leon Cupra R and 330d side by side, I had two separate sets of NCD, one was at something like 6 years, the other was given an introductory 3 years, and earned additional years from there on out.

The renewal letters confirmed that they were indeed separately earned as they both had different numbers of years on them.

As far as I am aware there is no centralised database for NCB, although you can only use one per policy at a time and its up to the insurers to police this. If they have made an error and you now have 2 policies with 6 years NCB then make hay while the sun shines! The most important thing is that either company will need to provide you with an NCB certificate and if that is what you have then it should be fine.
Failing that you could call them and clarify with them. Risk losing the "6 years" on your company car!

I'm not concerned about losing the 6 years on my co. car. I just want it correct, so there is no problem IF I have to make a claim in the future.

My new policy I just setup, I told them I only had 1 year NCB and they priced it based on that.

So I setup this last week, and today I got this letter from my insurance policy that ended yesterday.

That seems like its their error then seeing as they have given you 6 when it should just be the one.
Having said that I have heard of people getting that certificate and then using it to get a good price on a new policy. It never gets questioned so you should be fine either way :)

well I cannot take advantage of the 6 years anyway, as I have already sorted and fully paid for the co. car new policy at 1 year NCB. £700 for the Lexus IS300h 1 years NCB and business use and personal.

My Impreza insurance will be coming in at around £300 with 6 years NCB in August I think.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I took out an policy on a third car we had at the time, and at the end of the first year, they gave me 5 years NCD.

I just kept this going, along with my main policy, and so now I have 2 sets of NCD, one 9 years, and one 6 years. And the wife has 6 years too. So I keep my main set going, and alternate between my second and my wifes on the second car.

Yeah, possibly an error. Or maybe they "mirrored" my other policy come renewal time. This has happened to me before too (although for the original policy cost that time, as opposed to renewal), but lost that discount from lack of use.
