Hyundai 5 year warranty - confused

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what the Hyundai warranty scope would be if I purchased a used Hyundai that was say, a fleet car at one point in it's life.

I've been looking over the Hyundai website and I am confused.

This page says the following:

** The Five Year Umlimited Warranty and its associated features is not available on passenger cars used for hire, reward or commercial use. Refer to sections below for full warranty terms and exclusions.

Then on this page it reads as follows:

The unlimited mileage is truly unlimited, for private and company vehicles.

Before I try to contact Hyundai to get clarification on this matter, I'm wonder if anyone here has been through this process and could shed some light on it?

It seems too good to be true that I could pick up an ex-fleet high mileage Hyundai under 5 years old and it still be within warranty but the Hyundai site is giving me mixed messages.

Commercial use and company vehicles are two different things.

You can buy an ex-fleet vehicle under 5 years old and it'd still be under warranty.
 
Hmm ok. Can you educate me on what the difference in meaning is? I'm assuming commercial might mean a pool car on site?

Commercial used for transporting goods or people.

Company car - business giving it's employee a method of transport for business and private work.

If the vehicle is originally registered for commercial use (e.g. for hire and reward purposes, such as taxis, private hire vehicle or light commercial vehicle), and if the vehicle is sold on, subsequent owners of the vehicle, even if using the vehicle is for private use, will only benefit from any remaining portion of the original 5 year, 100,000 mile commercial warranty

Its actually a relevant question for me, because I was duped in this same way. I have not yet queried it, but as far as I am concerned, I was sold a vehicle (WLMG Hyundai Reading) with a full 5 year warranty.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of situation I want to avoid if I were to go ahead and purchase a Hyundai, especially if one is over the 100,000 mile limit.

How did you find out it was actually registered for commercial use?
 
I can say the opposite, I've had nothing but delight whilst dealing with Hyundai. Got a 63 plate i10 myself. Whilst it has been in under warranty for replacement suspension brushes, they were pleasant to deal with and got it all sorted promptly. For what it's worth though, I'm the first 'real' owner of the car. It was pre-registered to the dealer, so they are technically counted as the first.
 
I just rang Hyundai on 0800 981 981 and they said they will supply warranty eligibility information on a car if you provide them with a registration. Good stuff.

Heh yep, I once test drove 2 Hyundai coupes. Both under 30k miles and both had severly worn clutches and bad alternators already. They must make them out of cheese.

After that I realised I was looking for the wrong car :P

In my experience this is usually down to your local dealer, not the manufacturer.

When dealing with warranty issues on my vauxhall, my local one were absolutely terrible, performing work that I'd specifically told them not, arguing that the 3 year warranty wasn't real and was in fact only a 2 year warranty and I was wrong for thinking it was 3 years. I had to contact vauxhall customer services for assistance and get them overrule them and get my money back.

After that experience I went to a different vauxhall dealer for future issues who couldn't have done more.
