Do you constantly monitor the graphics card market?

Personally I actually only really follow hardware when I'm due an upgrade. So for the last 6 weeks or so I've shown a keen interest in the current crop of cards and what is upcoming.

Once I actually make the purchase I kinda back out of this place. I just use my card in normal day to day use and I dont give a crap about the market until my next upgrade a couple of years down the line.

For example if I had bought an NVidia card recently I wouldn't be on this forum watching the new AMD card threads the way I do.

Sometimes I see people post in either an NVidia thread or an AMD thread and they make it clear they would never buy one or the other. I find that kinda weird that they would even bother looking in there to tell people.

Computers are a hobby, I like to keep abreast of the latest developments.

Right now I feel relatively pro-nvidia, but my current cards are my first nVidia cards since 8800GTX.

Between the two I've had 4870X2s, 5990, 7970+7990, etc.

Like to browse regularly, but look a lot when I'm thinking about possibly changing or upgrading. For me this used to be every couple of years or so, but worryingly it feels like it may be more regular. As such I've been reading and posting in the graphics card forum quite a lot (for me anyways)

I tend to read reviews and such, if a big release/announcment is due (like the new AMD stuff for the 16th) or articles about new technology I like to follow those too.

Realistically I only upgrade my PC every 3 - 4 years so I only really start comparing benchmarks and researching cards in detail then!

I'm fairly vendor neutral though (MX440, 9800 Pro, x1600 Pro, 8800GTX, 560Ti, 290)

I'm always on here looking at what's posted recently as I've enjoyed looking at reviews and fiascos since the 970 came out.
Really looking forward to next week.

I pay attention to hardware when I feel I need some new hardware.

I paid CPUs no attention for years once I'd got my Q6600, and then just before the 2500k came out I felt I needed something and so got that. still using it. Before the Q6600 I would upgrade at elast every 18 months.

Similarly I've had a 6950 for ages but now I'm running on a 2560x1600 screen I felt the need. It was going to be a 290x but I've decided to push the boat out and get a new case, my first watercooling setup in a decade and either the 980ti or a Fury something.

Don't give a hoot about hardware until I feel the need, as yearly gains aren't often enough to interest me. Basically on a 4 year cycle now.

8800GTS in 2007
6950 in early 2011

As you can see, I've now got the itch for a new GPU after 4 years naturally. Not feeling a need for a new CPU yet though. 2500k has been at stock since a week after launch (hit 5ghz on air the first few days for a superpi run!) so once the new watercooling rig is installed I'll bump it to 4.5-4.8 and rest easy for some time to come.

Im the same with regards to my 2500k. I think at the time I trawled the CPU forum and got an idea of what was the best option and since then Ive really lost track of things.

I wouldnt mind a nice smaller case build in the future so I like to keep an eye on case forum and build logs too.

Totally love hardware, but only actually learn about it in line with upgrade.

Yes - looking all the time. I look for the moment when it makes sense to jump-ship to achieve the best resale & upgrade outcome......

I used to spend hours a day benching, reading, replying. Now I limit that to when I initially buy the card or when I'm having an issue see if anyone else has it. Usually I just browse and entertain myself with the arguments.

It's good place to get news snippets rather than scouring the web. I like that some guys are really helpfull and knowledgeable.

I do cringe a bit at the benchmarking side of things and the 'I have £400 to spend, which card should I buy?' threads.... I'm a gamer, so I play games. I dont care if I'm getting 105 fps when I should be getting 110 fps. etc etc

Aye, know what you mean. I also tend to look on here for news, as 9 times out of 10 someone will have picked it up and posted pretty quick.
I sometimes post the odd bit myself if I can see no one else has, and that makes me feel right special and all warm inside :o;)

Lol there is an actual reason for it. I'm not surprised you don't get it :p

I use to intensely, then stopped for a good while only hearing about things in passing. This was after the launch of the GTX 680. Only recently took it up again when I start building a custom system again and leaving bought workstations behind.

Now the bug has bit me again horribly, and I "need" every bit of information.

Not much. I read a few tech sites to while away time and stay roughly abrest and looking busy. The GPU section on here (and everywhere except "agnostic" game specific forums) is a cesspit of bickering between the rival tribes, so rarely bother.

Last GPU I bought and showed much interest in was the 7970. Still rocking it now, not much intention to upgrade yet. My GPU needs seem to be inversely proportional to my age. I'll be using an Intel GPU soon!
