Hey all

I have been looking into buying a new car, I have come to the conclusion finance is not for me.

SO I have been looking at Leasing for Brand spankers.

I Can spend £200 MAX a month. But would like to spend less if possible.
I would like a car that has better performance than my Clio 172, 3Dr (5 if that's all they do).

I missed out on the 208 GTi that was going for £166Pm But that's the sort of car I would like.
I Do 11kPa, So a 12kPa lease is required.
Petrol or Diesel.

24 months lease is ideal too. With a max of 3 months up front

What do you fine people know of thats out there?!

ST Fiesta can be had for less than £200p/m and I've never heard a bad word said about them apart from the keyless entry.
What's wrong with your Clio haven't u spent some ££ in the time u have owned it. ?

I have seen the ST's, But they are so common i don't think i would be happy with one.

Nothings wrong with the clio, Its fine. I just fancy a change come September :)

There common because there the best small hot hatch. A new Pug would probably be back at the garage every few weeks with a fault knowing French cars why do u think they offer them for small p/m payments on just add fuel just so they sell some :p

What do you think leasing is if finance is 'not for you'?

Leasing is an even more restrictive method of financing a car.

Yes i know that.

I simply dont want to buy a new car on finance, They require a MASSIVE deposit and have stupid rates of finance.
Then there is the mental Baloon payment at the end.

I'm after something that I can pay less Monthly and hand back, and from what i have worked out leasing works out around the same costs wise after you take into account depreciation without the hassle of selling it later.

Leasing is the same sort of thing - the lack of deposit is typically countered by higher monthly payments though frankly most leases require between 6 and 9 months as a deposit anyway which is similar to the sort deposit you need for a typical PCP anyway.

If you don't pay the balloon on a PCP you can hand it back, too. You can also hand it back after paying 50% of the agreement which you cannot with a lease.

I'm not saying PCP is amazing but if you think leasing is some sort of different thing it absolutely isn't, it's still a financed car, just an even more expensive one.

Good luck getting a 12k PA lease on anything that isn't crud for under £200 a month (Remember to amortise the deposit to get the true monthly cost).

That deal i missed out on was a 1-23 Deal £166 per month on a 208GTi.

I have done the maths, and its cheaper over 24 months to lease a car.

I DON'T want the hassle of selling it on, Please Stop telling me to finance a car when I don't want too, I want to lease one.

Fox, You say the Initial Lease is much the same as the deposit on a PCP?
I just checked, and a 3,24 lease is £600 up front and £200 each month.
Pcp for the same car would be £3500 Up front, £175 Per month. Hmmm

Thats either a totally crap PCP or there is a pile of equity in the deal which you've failed to take into account at the end.

Have you considered a loan?

Yup, I could buy a 3 year old car and the repayments would be well within my budget. BUT if it were to break there is no warranty to back it up as most warranty's are for 3 years.
So leasing may cost a little bit more, and I don't own the car, but if it were to die on me for what ever reason i can palm it off at the dealer so be fixed, grab a spare car and be on my way without having to worry about the extra costs.

I have had enough of expensive repair bills. According to my bills on the Clio 172 i have spent close to £210 Per month (average) over my 13months of ownership JUST ON REPAIRS!

Personal loan, finance a nice second hand car, pay for extended warranty.

DO you have a link to an ST for less than £200 chap? WIll have a look :)

just google cheap Fiesta ST deals there are loads of links for uk leasing. The average seems to be around £185p/m for them.
Even though some people see leasing as money down the drain as u have nothing to show for it at the end i can see your point if you are spending a lot of money keeping your Clio running.
I considered the ST Fiesta myself as i am going to have to pay 6k for a 9yr old Focus ST as my next car and it could possibly throw up some expensive repair bills in the time i will have it where as i could lease the Fiesta for about 1k down and less than 200p/m which over the 2yrs works out nearly the same as buying a 9yr old Focus. Yes i would have nothing to show when it goes back and the Focus might be worth half after 2yrs but if i ended up with repair bills then that would equal it out almost.
If you want trouble free motoring and dont have say 5k cash lying round to buy a half decent car then leasing would be a decent option IMO.

I'm fairly sure that deal was an 18 month deal, not a 24. I was looking at them too. It's gone now but the replacement is still *close* to your needs. Just looking at Mad Sheep's 208 offers there's one at £201.70 per month for 18 months.. albeit 10,000 miles not 12. Don't suppose 12 would be much more (?)
