British people and coffee shops

Depends what coffee shops you go to, however on the same kind of note. Has anyone else noticed that certain fast food franchises employ different ethnic groups? It seems that way to the ones I go to anyway(not very often). McDonalds seems to be white teenagers, KFC is usually Asian teenagers, Burger king black teenagers. I always found this strange.

Nope. And I should know, there's a KFC next to my college and a McDonalds on my way home. :D

Living with an imaginary pink elephant and so getting disability allowance and being claimed unfit for work and then nominating a family member as a carer, so they get carer's allowance.
Some communities use a sort of subletting triangle scheme where they all rent from each other and the taxpayer foots the inflated rent bills.

You can't get housing benefit if you're related to the property owner and can't get dole if you have a rental income, this has always been the case despite what tv comedies might tell you.

Maybe it's related to the owner's ethnic group? So they are only recruiting people of the same ethnic group :p

I know of one such case..

Someone recently left the place where I work and was getting 150 quid a week on the dole alone.

1: What do you mean by "the dole", as there is no such benefit. There are a myriad of "benefits" payable for all different types of reasons, including a lot payable to those in work (child tax credits, working tax credits, child benefit, housing benefit) and includes pensions, so what do you mean?

In this case I meant Job Seekers. By "Dole" I'm referring to their sole means/primary means of income whilst out of work.

last I checked unemployment was really low 5.4%

america 5.5%
france 10.6%

oh yea brits are so work shy

you never see british kids working in poundland , mcdonalds , iceland , tesco , asda , morrisons etc....

oh wait..

The coffee shops that primarily employ foreign women are clearly only interested in their appearance

you've quoted stats from decidedly western countries though, both with a history of entitlement....take another non-economically deprived country but without this problem, like hong kong, where they don't have a benefits culture and where people's pride would not let them take a hand out, and unemployment is only 3.2%...

This probably has a lot to do with job creation and no minimum wage being prevalent instead of benefits, but i don't necessarily see that as being a bad thing......there are also far fewer "social" problems created by the benefits culture in countries like the UK (ie chavs) and theres seems to be a lot more respect for working people.

My brother works in a coffee shop, been to uni and all got his music degree 5 years ago!

Anyway costa etc all employ on the cheap, but local and bistro type coffee shops are crying out for English workers.

So I suppose some English people think its below them.

Are you really comparing the employment rate of a SE Asian country with a population of 7 million and no minimum wage to the UK?

On topic, most of Bristol's baristas are Caucasian hippies. Certain chains, or franchises of the big 3 fast food chains, seem to employ only one ethnic group as above. One KFC is entirely Chinese so I guess the franchise owner is Chinese.

On the dole

Meaning:

Unemployed and in receipt of state benefit.

Origin:

In the UK, Unemployment Benefit has been known by the slang term 'the dole' since WWI. This derives from the 'doling out', that is, 'handing out' of charitable gifts of food or money. This dates back to at least 1919, when it was recorded in The Daily Mail.

Im a barista trainer and can tell you that you wont get good coffee from any of the franchines around. there sole focus is speed of service and how many customers they can get through their tills.

People are wising to 'good' coffee though rapidly so hopefully things change!

There are plenty 'artisian' coffee shops around, predominatly run by british people and the quality is 100x better than the top 3 chains.
