RAM at different speeds

I have 8gb corsair xms3.
My friend has a spare 8gb he's giving me for free but it runs at slightly lower speeds.

1. Is this advisable to install
2. I presume ill be getting the lower speeds even on my higher sped ram. I know ill be getting double the ram but will lower speeds make this more of a downgrade?

Yes they will work together, but its not guaranteed. If it does work, the faster RAM will run at the same speed as the slower RAM and performance wouldn't make a difference.

Unless your benching, there will be no noticeable difference between 1600 and 2400!
