QUICK, BUY 290X NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!
Right now for AMD cards, it looks like the older 290x provides better performance to price than the newer cards. No wonder they were trying to get retailers to empty stock. So buy the 290x while it's still around right now. Even if we're all wrong and the 390/390x is somehow more than just a FILTHY rebrand, you can just return your 290x for a refund and get the new card. Heck, by the time the 290x arrives, we'll know for sure about the 390x. So you'll have it ready in mint condition for either using it and laughing in the faces of those who missed out or to return it with no hassles. Also OCUK have some great deals on 290x right now. I noticed a tasty looking Asus ROG 290x the other day.
I think that's taking into account EU taxes (EU prices sorta account for VAT in the UK, since we don't pay any extra tax on top of the price when buying in Euros) and also the usualUK EU price gouging. Honestly... these prices look realistic, especially when one looks at the dollar pricing. It's almost the same as current 200 series cards, but in £s? Maybe they are a tad out of proportion, but nonetheless, I don't see how AMD can get out of this pitfall right now.
And it's definitely a fail for the 390/390x which are priced much worse than the 290x which was just about appropriately priced for the 4GB version below £250. In terms of R&D costs, I understand why they launched the rebrands, they'd rather spend their money developing the Fury and the next-gen die-shrink cards than waste cash on more 28nm. But for us consumers... AMD are doing badly.
This also now means the GTX 970 is even better at providing bang for buck at it's current price point so no chance of price drops
Oh well. I was going to buy the 390x if it was good, but now it seems I'll have to stick with my original plan of buying a 970 now. I'd order today if the prices were good on the MSI Gaming. And if we're all wrong and the 390x were somehow to be better... then it would arrive just in time for me to return it and buy a 390x instead. But that ain't happening according to these leaks.
Now to wait for OCUK to put the MSI Gaming 970 on that deal for £270 like they've done a lot recently. There's 2 other 970s on the daily deal right now, but those coolers are too loud for my taste. And when both the 970 and my 2 extra case fans arrive I can finally get around to building my new PC. Yay!

Well those prices are clearly wrong. Maybe they confused the dollar and euro keys.
