R9 290X Platinum or GTX970?

I had a look through the graphics card as I typically go with AMD graphics.

Noticed a lot of people were suggesting the nVidia 970's on the forum for new builds.

So ultimately, GTX 970 or R9 290X?

2 days to wait for a new line up release from AMD.

Which series is that, and does AMD typically launch at a sensible price?

Or will the equivalent of the R9 290X on the new line be a lot more?

Roughly about the same performance, plus and minuses come with either card, stick with what you know if your normally go for AMD unless you want a change or specific features from Nvidia.
