Anyone else suffer from electrical heat overload in their bedroom?

First of all, yes it's due to me willingly putting so much stuff in bedroom which also serves as my office and den, so no-one else to blame... but does anyone else find summer heat rising to unbearable temperatures due to the amount of electrical stuff they have in there?

I have a gaming laptop, PS4, TV, printer, large bluetooth speakers, soundbar, router, switch, power bricks for all of the above... and it's now the time of year where that extra 5-7c or so degrees extra ambient temperature really makes a difference when sleeping.

Anyone else feeling the same? :)

Not my bedroom, but yeah my computer room can get unbearably hot.

I don't have much on my bedroom, I like the air to be cold in my bedroom so the wind is open 24/7 and I have a fan on all year round to circulate the cold air coming in through the window. :p

We have this problem in our snug, as it's south facing and full of cinema kit including a gaming HTPC and a plasma. Luckily we've got French windows in there so we can open those, which helps.

Not sure what type / brand of ceiling fan you've got, but the ones with larger blades will obviously be quieter for a given rate of air movement and brands such as Fantasia are very quiet in operation in my experience. Also try better earplugs? I find cotton wax ones the best combination of comfort and noise blocking.

Maybe a standalone aircon unit would help, though if the room is large it can be expensive to buy one powerful enough.

Buy one of these

Suffered with this for a number of years when I was in the UK. Fans did nothing, so the best bet was a portable AC unit.

Picked up a 2nd hand one from ebay and it worked a treat.

Just make sure you have a window in your room to chuck the exhaust hose out of.

I have this one. First one was faulty but I am told that is very rare (by the engineer) and was replaced.

Initial thoughts are it's good, though a little more complex than it needs to be. Before this one I had a Creda unit which served me for 10 years until failing. That was less complex but just as good. All you need is something that pumps out cold air, the whole temp sensing stuff I don't think is needed. Pipe goes out the window and as I have sash windows the device above is ideal as it comes with a metal bracket that first into the open window to remove the gap. It simple has a whole which you vent through, works really well.

Yea, thats a bit low tech for these forums!

Obviously my suggestion of a fan was too low tech as well since we've moved onto AC units :D

Fan tends to move hot air around, he needs to remove the heat. He could open a door and a window....but that might blow peoples minds so I thought AC was a better route.

Used to suffer with this (even in the middle of winter), ended up making sure everything was shut off & had a fan pulling in cold air for 10-15 minutes before I went to bed

Best thing I ever did, was clear the bedroom of all my electronics, now just have a iPhone dock (which doubles as an alarm clock), the rest have been moved to the spare bedroom. The bedroom is now just for sleeping in

Great solution.

But too simple :D

We obviously need to over complicate the answer and ensure that the OP spends big behind it :p

Don't these things have a horrible looking pipe which you have to stick out of the window? I presume that you then still have to block off the remaining gap with something?

I know what you mean and my new bedroom is probably worse for it. Thankfully though, the router and time capsule have been removed and the amplifier and monitor is warm to touch but no real heat given off, so now the only heat really comes from the xbox or the desktop.

Good draught through an open window sharp cures it. ;)

As I said, they come with an extendable blanking plate, which is a very neat solution. Slides under the window, lock the window down on top and you have no gap and a pre-drilled hole for the pipe to slot into. You of course need sash windows to take advantage of this however.

do you leave all your kit on at night?

Nope, I sleep in the nude.

Yeah that's what kind of puts me off... plus where I store it when I'm not using it (I live in an apartment on an upper floor with no lift).
