Cheap taxis in London

For the record you can question the price and the driver should follow suit if its a bit OTT.
Pay with PP and query it later for a refund.

Black cabs are extortionate dunno how they get away with it. That meter seems to just roll up faster and faster every time i get in one.

Sounds like they either selected an expensive class of car or were hit by a surge charge. My most expensive Uber trip in London was £24.29 for an 8.46 mile trip and that was with a 1.5x Surge price
 
£55 was about what I paid to go from Holborn to Northholt at midnight. That's about a 15 mile journey.

Paid almost exactly the same with Addison Lee for a similar trip.
 
wow you guys got ripped... its about 35 quid for 25 miles (Forest Hill South London to Hornchurch NE London )

in a crappy whatever the first car to come is no specials.

must be central area charges at work.

I once paid £46 for a 27 mile trip with Uber, but I had a £20 off promo code so it meant my journey only cost £26 :D

For the wheelchair, maybe request an Uber XL?
 
Another +1 for Uber, caught a number of them in Manchester. At their normal pricing they're a fair bit cheaper than the other taxi companies. But when there's a surge (not enough taxi's near you) they can start to get a bit expensive - so you might find it cheaper to go with another company if the surge lasts too long.
 
Definitely Uber, but check on the disabled access. I've only used them once, at about 2am on the Saturday before Christmas. Marylebone to Ealing, 9 miles. Surge pricing was at 2.5x but I had a £10 referral code so only cost me £30.

Was trying to persuade my girlfriend to sign up for the £20 referral each but she wouldn't as she 'never gets cabs'. Which she doesn't (neither do I normally), but £20 off is worth having! Women..
 
Cheers all! Tried Uber yesterday - worked fine :) wheelchair is foldable so fit easily enough in the trunk. Not sure if they'll all be the same, but worth trying anyway. Compared Addison Lee after I got back home and same journey would've cost an extra 7-8 pounds with them. The information on sur-charges is helpful. Will keep that in mind when booking and if there's one being applied, may switch to addison lee or a black cab instead.
