980ti cannot achieve max settings on Crysis 3 at 1080p?

So I am running a 2500k @4.2Ghz, 8GB DDR3 Ram and a 980ti overclocked. Everything on very high I am getting between 40-50fps in Crysis 3. This is even with AA disabled and at 1920x1080 (1080p). Stock GPU settings also achieves same effect, though I see a performance boost with the OC.

This surely can not be right can it? Not with the benchmarks I have been seeing.

980ti can't run crysis?! FAIL!!! :D

lol joking aside, i had a similar problem to this but i think a different driver fixed this or running borderless window mode can't remember as it was a while ago now. But it was same symptoms where cpu usage and even gpu wasn't even near max yet FPS was in the low 30-40 range so i was like what the eff is going on.

Well I can only use one driver (the latest) with the 980ti. I will try windowed mode.

At 1440p, with 2 x 780Ti in SLI (roughly same power if your 980Ti is well overclocked) I get between around 60-90 fps on the first 2 levels. Never played it past here. Just use as a benchmark really. This is with all settings at max except object detail and shadows one down I think, and SMAAx1 or whatever it is.

At 1080p and no AA you should be way north of 60fps! Let's see if we can fix it for you....

Only thing I can suggest at this stage is your CPU - Crysis 3 uses multi threading really well - one of the few games that does! I'm on an i7 2600k at 4.6Gz. Perhaps the lack of multithreading is totally bottlenecking the 980Ti in this game?

Try changing your resolution in the game menu and then changing it back to 1920*1080.

Didn't work : (

Before purchasing the game I posted a question on the forum about this issue and I got an overwhelming reply from many people saying with a single 980ti I won't encounter a bottleneck. So I hope this isn't the case. I just finished Playing Witcher 3 on ultra getting over 100+fps in places and a minimal of 80.

I would have thought a 2500 at 4.2 would be good enough myself too. All I can say is that on level 2 of Crysis 3, my CPU gets really really high usage - the most CPU usage across all 4 cores and then all 4 'hyper threads' I've seen a game use ever, I think.

If it's only Crysis 3 showing this disappointing performance, that's my best guess

I think if this was the case, a CPU bottleneck, my CPU would be at 100%. Instead it is between 88% and 92%. Also if you check http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2389580 you will see proof that my 2500k shouldn't be the problem.

But if it isn't that, I don't know what it is :(

EDIT: It could very well be http://www.geek.com/games/rope-physics-is-killing-the-framerate-in-crysis-3-1541058/

Is that usage on all cores? I don't know much about Cryengine, but I would have thought if CPU usage were such that all cores were flat out, the hyperthreading on the i7 wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Maybe you could try to find someone with an i7 and 980Ti to test that section with HT on/off to see if it could be replicated?

There's always the possibility it's just an engine thing too. If there's something going on at that scene where it's choking due to sloppy optimisation, there's not much you can do.

Should have asked, which specific level are you playing? Which parts? Is the framerAte constantly under 50, or is it only very specific parts that are? Like the rope bits on the first level with the documented dodgy physics? need more info dude.

yea i cant get over 60fps all the time with my 980ti at full settings with full aa either my cpu is a 4790k so i just put aa to fxaa the fps jump up massive.

I wouldn't worry about it watch gregs video of his titanx running crysis 3 i know he's at 1440p but his drops into the 30s.

Maybe a stupid question but have you got v - sync enabled ? Usually effects my gpu usage in games especially when using xfire

You should be getting closer to 60fps

Crysis 3 likes lots of CPU cores/threads (so I have been told) so that may be holding you back a bit.

When I get time I will do some runs @1080p with a TX.

It definitely does like CPU threads (particularly on the Welcome to the Jungle level). 4.2GHz is fairly conservative for the epic 2500K - try pushing 4.6+ :p
