Another courier horror story

Wont you just get a new one ??

Yes. Virgin have said that they have already blacklisted the phone and once Yodels investigation is complete, if they can't trace the phone, I will be sent a new one. Virgin will then recoup the money off Yodel.

I know I'll get a new one, but it is the incompetence, hassle and delay of it all that is grinding my gears.

Say you will pay an extra tenner if Virgin will use a proper courier this time, at least you will know it won't be stolen (worth it for a phone like that). If they do use Yodel again and it's not stolen, it would probably end up in 2581 pieces WHEN it arrives to you.

Beg them not to sent with Yodel, actually call them and cry into the phone NOT to use Yodel

Right, time for some humble pie. Strong apologies for my assumptions, the phone has now turned up. I'm not happy with the neighbours though.

When I asked today, there was no sign of it. Went back down tonight to be told that their daughter had daughter signed for it earlier as her dads name is Robert. Different surname though. The phone has clearly been opened.

2 points. Why would you sign for a delivery in a completely different name, and why would you then proceed to open a phone that you clearly haven't ordered? I'm hoping its a genuine mistake, but my cynical side is telling me that they took it, opened it and backtracked when they realised it was blocked. But they are neighbours so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. At least I've got my phone,

It's opened, ergo it's second hand. Send it back and get a new one.

I'm starting to go back to Royal Mail these days now for expensive items. With insurance applied, Interparcel and Parcel2Go etc don't work out that competetive.

Recently I posted an item worth just over £300. Both the above places wanted at least £16 to insure the item at full value, this was on top of the initial fee of just under £6. Then you add more for a signature.

I nipped down to the post office and it was sent at insured value using RMSD for less than £9 total.

I remember when the post office used to be more expensive, they've certainly caught up, and then some.

So the daughter opened it? How old is she?

If young, an inconvenience. If old enough to know better, I'd have a word with your neighbours.

Doesn't the person whose name is on the label have to sign for it or at least an adult from the same address?

Obviously the young girl isn't Robert, i think the father or mother signed for it planning on keeping it.

Sometimes a courier will put the name down that's on the parcel, not the person who's accepted it. I've had my mum accept stuff and then the tracking shows that I "signed" for it, and the same if I've ever accepted anything for my mum, the tracking shows it as having been signed by her.

Yeah, Ill never know what happened exactly, but I am a little suspicious of the neighbours. I clearly told her earlier on when she said she didn't have it that I lived at number 95. If it was you and you realised an hour or so later that you had it, wouldn't you run it to them rather than opening it and waiting for them to come and get it when you know they dont think it's there?

Blatantly thought they were getting a nice new phone for free. If you open the parcel to find a phone box and you open it up to take a look inside etc then you clearly aren't thinking of returning it.

Around here atleast (not sure how it is over the rest of the country) Royal Mail has upped their game since the start of the year - not sure why/what/how. Complete opposite of the service from last year.

The others aside from DPD are still terrible though - a couple of days back one of them when delivering a parcel for me asked if it was ok to take a neighbours parcel - so I said yes thinking one of the next doors was out but turned out when I looked at it the box was addressed to a house 100+yards away - I think he blatantly couldn't be bothered to drive down that end of the road as when I dropped it off they were in a state as the tracking was showing it as having been delivered and they hadn't been carded, etc.
